NBA: The New Greatest NBA Commercial of All-Time
This video is exclusively owned by TNT and was shown today before the New York Knicks versus Boston Celtics game.
The NBA has had a history of amazing (mind the pun) commercials including this video and this video. The idea of "where amazing happens" or "there can only be one" have produced classic commercials. After the very unpopular and seemingly endless lockout, the NBA wanted to put out another classic.
The NBA succeeded superbly.
In the new commercial, veteran players are playing side by side with current NBA players. For example, at the foul line, Carmelo Anthony is next to Charles Barkley. They match up players like Steve Nash with "Pistol Pete" Maravich. My personal favorite is Dwight Howard being swatted by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when trying to shoot Jabbar's famous hook shot.
The entire, almost two-minute commercial is played to the song "Live Forever" with the line "I want you to live forever" repeating over and over. The song kicks in after a three-point shot by Ray Allen with a Larry Bird assist. Seriously, it gave me chills.
The commercial is superb. It hits every part of what it looked for: star power, highlights and even a bit of humor (see Kareem and Dwight Howard's interaction around the minute mark). It ends with a fist bump between Derrick Rose and Michael Jordan, the best NBA player and the reigning MVP.
