2012 NFL Mock Draft: Michael Floyd and This Year's Top Playmakers

Austin GreenDec 23, 2011

The 2012 draft class is loaded with playmakers, from once in a lifetime quarterbacks, to powerful running backs, to explosive wide receivers.

Even with a few top prospects returning to school, this could be one of the most memorable draft classes in recent years.

Here is my first mock draft for 2012. Major changes will be made in the coming months, but this should provide a bit of perspective.

*Draft order based on current records.

1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

Andrew Luck has been the clear-cut number-one pick the entire season and the Colts would love for him to be Peyton Manning's replacement.

Unfortunately for Indy, they keep winning for some inexplicable reason. Now sitting at 2-12, they are in a three-way tie with Minnesota and St. Louis for the worst record in the league.

If they want to have the draft's best quarterback, they better go back to sucking. And fast.

2. St. Louis Rams: Matt Kalil, OT, USC

Sam Bradford was constantly injured this season due to the 36 sacks he absorbed. The Rams need to protect their young quarterback or he will never develop properly.

Kalil is unquestionably the best offensive lineman available.

3. Minnesota Vikings: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

Minnesota has plenty of needs, but their awful secondary is the most glaring.

Claiborne, with his size, speed and natural instincts, is the best option for the Vikings.

4. Cleveland Browns: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

Everyone is head over heels for Luck, but Richardson will be the best player from this draft class. Peyton Hillis has been a disappointment in Cleveland and Richardson is the perfect replacement.

The bruising 224-pound back is one of the most violent runners I have ever seen. Plenty of teams would love to have him on board. If the Browns are smart, they'll pick him up.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina

The Jaguars desperately need help on the defensive line and Coples is the best option available. This season he recorded 51 tackles and 7.5 sacks for the Tar Heels.

6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

The Bucs need help in the secondary and Kirkpatrick is the second-best cornerback on the board. Six is a bit high for him, but Tampa risks losing him if they trade down too far.

They should stay put and draft Kirkpatrick.

7. Washington Redskins: Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

Washington has a gaping hole at quarterback, and with Matt Barkley returning to USC, RG3 is a no-brainer.

The Heisman trophy winner was electric for the Bears, leading them to a 9-3 record by scoring 45 total touchdowns. He should be excellent in the pros as well.

8. Miami Dolphins: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

The Dolphins would love a quarterback, but Barkley kind of screwed them over. Eighth overall is too high to draft Landry Jones, so expect Miami to either trade down or solidify their line with Reiff.

9. Carolina Panthers: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State

It's scary to think about the numbers Blackmon and Cam Newton could put up together. Newton was great in his rookie season and he would be even better with an elite wide receiver at his side.

I loved what I saw from Blackmon this season. His size and body control make him the best receiver on the board.

10. Buffalo Bills: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

The Bills need someone to protect Ryan Fitzpatrick and Martin is the best available lineman at this point in the draft.

11. Philadelphia Eagles: Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston College

The Eagles have had issues at linebacker all season, so picking up Kuechly makes perfect sense. The kid has great instincts and is a tackling machine.

12. Kansas City Chiefs: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

Kansas City desperately need an upgrade at receiver. Although this may be a little high for Floyd, the Notre Dame product is one of the best playmakers on the board.

He's got great size and is the second-best receiver behind Blackmon

13. Arizona Cardinals: Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama

The Cardinals would love to get one of the top offensive tackles, but it isn't happening at 13. Upshaw is an excellent consolation prize, though.

14. Tennessee Titans: Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina

The Titans could also go with Andre Branch, but I like Ingram here because of his versatility and motor.

15. San Diego Chargers: Mark Barron, S, Alabama

Like Arizona, the Chargers aren't getting an elite offensive lineman this late in the first round. They would be smart to pick up the havoc-wreaking Barron.

16. Seattle Seahawks: Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma

I actually believe Jones will return to school, but if he comes out, he would be a good fit in Seattle.

17. New York Giants: Vontaze Burfict, ILB, Arizona State

Burfict is very raw, but he has all the physical tools to be the next great linebacker out of Ball So Hard University.

18. Cincinnati Bengals: David DeCastro, G, Stanford

DeCastro could step in and start in the NFL right now. The Bengals need to protect Andy Dalton and DeCastro is the best lineman available at this point.

19. Chicago Bears: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina

Jay Cutler needs some more weapons and Jeffery is the third-best receiver on the board.

20. Dallas Cowboys: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia

Dallas doesn't have any major holes but could use upgrades at several positions. I think they pick up Jones here. This season he had 69 tackles and 13.5 sacks. He could be a beast next to DeMarcus Ware.

21. Cincinnati Bengals: Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska

With DeCastro solidifying their line, the Bengals should turn to defense for their second pick. Dennard has good instincts and would provide depth in the secondary.

22. New York Jets: Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

If the Jets don't bring back Plaxico Burress, they'll need another receiver. This might be a reach, but Wright is the best available this late in the first.

23. Denver Broncos: Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State

The Broncos would be smart to beef up their defense since they'll be in plenty of close games with Tebow at quarterback.

24. Cleveland Browns: Andre Branch, DE, Clemson

Branch probably won't fall this far because he's just too talented. If he does, the Browns won't be able to pass him up.

25. Detroit Lions: David Wilson, RB, Virginia Tech

With Jahvid Best constantly getting hurt, the Lions could use some insurance in the backfield. Wilson is the man for the job.

26. Houston Texans: Zerbie Sanders, OT, Florida State

The Texans could use another big man on the line. Sanders would fit in beautifully.

27. Baltimore Ravens: Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

With half their offensive line becoming free agents, the Ravens would be smart to pick up a tackle while they can. They'd prefer Sanders, but Adams would work nicely as well.

28. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kevin Reddick, OLB, North Carolina

Linebacker isn't a pressing need for Pittsburgh, but with James Harrison constantly getting into trouble, they could use some depth and flexibility.

29. New England Patriots: Devon Still, DT, Penn State

Still would be a steal at this point. The big defensive tackle wreaks havoc in the middle and consistently disrupts plays.

30. San Francisco 49ers: Dwight Jones, WR, North Carolina

San Francisco could really use some more weapons and Jones, the massive receiver from Carolina, is the best option this late in the first round.

31. New England Patriots: Jonathan Banks, CB, Mississippi State

The Patriots have the worst secondary in the NFL. Banks won't fix everything, but he'll help solve the Pats biggest problem.

32. Green Bay Packers: Ronnell Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma

The Packers could use another pass rusher and Lewis is the best available at this point in the draft. He could learn a lot from Clay Matthews.
