Air Jordan 2011 Video: Watch Houston Freak out over New Sneakers

Zachary D. RymerDec 23, 2011

So the new Air Jordans are kind of a big deal.

Like, a really big deal. A big deal worth fighting over, apparently.

No doubt you've heard the stories by now. If not, the Associated Press has all the details. There has been violence across the union over His Airness' new sneakers, and there was even a rumor at one point that somebody had been murdered over them.

If you bothered not to involve yourself in the madness, a Houston news crew managed to put it all in perspective in the form of a special report. Direct your eyes to the above video clip for that.

The highlight of the clip is a brief montage that shows the mob outside the Greenspoint Mall, complete with a woman complaining about how the shoes just aren't worth it and one dude licking a fresh pair.

Yup, licking them. That's just plain weird.

The clip also features one guy sharing a rather brilliant idea about how Michael Jordan needs to stop distributing his shoes through malls and stores. Instead, he should distribute them from his house.

His friend then tried to squeeze in a sales pitch on the air, but was swiftly cut off.

If you're looking for a big picture perspective of the hype over the new Jordans, this clip pretty well does the trick. The only thing it's missing, really, is people beating the crap out of each other and particularly unruly shoppers getting pepper sprayed in the face by the police.

I wish I was joking, but the truth is that stuff like that has actually been reported to have happened over the new Jordans. That would be depressing in and of itself, but such activity is actually par for the course whenever new Jordans are released.

Yup, this is the world we live in.

Long live 'Merica.
