USC Football Recruiting 2012: 6 Targets Lane Kiffin Still Needs to Reel In
Wow, did Christmas come early for the Trojans or what? In case you didn't know, Matt Barkley announced yesterday he is coming back to USC for his senior season, and the Trojans look loaded for 2012.
On the recruiting front, the Men of Troy are still battling sanctions and scholarship reductions, but they have a solid class thus far. They have to be confident in their evaluations and hit on recruits because of the limited scholarships at use.
Here are six recruits they need to reel on in to Los Angeles.
6. Stefon Diggs, WR/DB/RS
1 of 6I list Stefon Diggs at this notch not due to order of importance, but because I think it still may be tough to land him. Diggs hasn't mentioned USC all that much, but the Trojans are inside his top eight.
He's a fantastic WR prospect at 6'0" and 185 pounds, and he reminds me a little of Robert Woods with a little better RAC skills.
Diggs also has schools like Florida, Auburn, Maryland, Michigan, Oklahoma, Virginia and Virginia Tech after him.
5. Nelson Agholor, ATH
2 of 6Nelson Agholor is the No. 1 ATH in the country, and he can play a host of positions. He's 6'2", 180 pounds and has a ton of natural play speed, athleticism and COD.
He has played his recruitment close to the vest, but Florida, Notre Dame and USC appear to be the main favorites. Some say Florida, while others point to his great ND visit, but USC has remained confident with him from the jump.
4. Zach Banner, OT
3 of 6Zach Banner is the huge OL recruit from Washington that has USC in his top five. Washington, Michigan, Notre Dame and Oklahoma round out his final list.
At 6'9", 305 pounds, Banner is an athletic OT prospect that I feel is best suited for RT right now. However, if he can clean up some of his footwork and add to his flexibility and range of motion, LT is not out of the question.
3. Kyle Murphy, OT
4 of 6Another OL prospect, yes. Kyle Murphy is a great OT recruit at 6'7" and 270 pounds. He's from the SoCal area and has grown up watching USC since he was a kid.
Florida, Stanford, Cal and Oregon are all other schools that have been mentioned around Murphy, who could make a decision in a few weeks at the U.S. Army Bowl.
2. Ellis McCarthy, DT
5 of 6Ellis McCarthy is another player that hails from the greater LA area who has been a USC fan since childhood. Now, he's a 5-star DT recruit that stands 6'5" and 310 pounds.
The Trojans envision him as a playmaking three-technique type that could join the ranks of Shaun Cody, Mike Patterson and Sedrick Ellis as great SC DTs.
Oregon is the main competition, with Washington and Cal in the mix as well.
1. Andrus Peat, OT
6 of 6Get the theme so far? Yes, OL prospects are huge these days for the Trojans, and none get any bigger than Andrus Peat, a 6'7", 305-pounder from Arizona.
Peat is the younger brother of Nebraska DT Todd Peat, and yes, the Cornhuskers are thick in the mix. Stanford and Florida State join the sweepstakes, with SC also having a draw to Peat's eye.
Peat took an unofficial trip to USC earlier this year and is likely to officially visit in the coming weeks.
