Colts, Vikings or Rams: Which Team Makes the Most Sense for Andrew Luck?

John RozumDec 23, 2011

With the Indianapolis Colts getting their second win of the season on Thursday, the race for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft has leveled off.

That being said, the next question to answer is where Andrew Luck gets drafted. Surely he'd be a great addition to anyone needing a QB however, it's where he makes the most sense that matters most.

Even if the Colts don't end up with the No. 1 overall pick, for those drafting within the Top 5, Indianapolis is the best fit for Luck. Regardless of Peyton Manning's situation it's a win-win for Circle City.

For one, we've seen rookie QBs impress this season and Andrew Luck is just as good as any of these guys. Therefore, if need be Luck has the potential and ability to be a solid day one starter. Secondly, learning under the wing of Manning would only benefit the future.

No matter how great Luck's football IQ is, you can never learn enough. That said, in a complex offense such as Indy's why not let him learn from a legend. That way, whenever Manning does hang up the cleats, the Colts offense won't miss a beat.

In turn, they'll continue to hit the ground running and get back on track from this forgettable season sooner than later.

Minnesota Vikings

It's not that Andrew Luck wouldn't be a good fit for the Vikings, because he would definitely make them better. But why would they draft Christian Ponder so high in the 2011 NFL Draft and then trade him to draft Luck?

All that's doing is making the 2011 draft and season an obsolete waste of time. Minnesota would then have to start all over and rebuild under center once again. And based on how well Ponder has produced since becoming the starter, the potential is there.

What they need in Minnesota is more pass protection, a pass defense, and at least one stud WR who can stretch the field. Bringing in Luck would eventually work, but there's no reason to take three steps back to try and take five steps forward.

Once Ponder went under center, you could see the Vikings offense feeling rejuvenated, so there's no reason to replace him with Andrew Luck.

St. Louis Rams

The Rams need a lot of help to say the least, so Andrew Luck would make some sense here. That being said though, Sam Bradford won the 2010 Offensive Rookie of the Year award, so he's proven that the future is prominent.

What the Rams need more than anything on offense right now is a beastly WR. Brandon Lloyd is definitely solid, but he's not a No. 1 WR and can't produce without some help.

Which is why the Rams need to draft Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon. There, Blackmon provides a dominant receiving threat to stretch and widen the field. In turn, that takes a lot of pressure off Sam Bradford in the pocket and RB Steven Jackson in the running game.

Andrew Luck would be a good QB in St. Louis, but he won't prove much better than Bradford with no legit receiving targets.
