Monta Ellis: Sexual Harrassment Suit Proves Warriors Missed Boat on Trading Him
The Warriors had every opportunity to trade Monta Ellis and they completely blew it. Now, with Ellis' stock way down with a sexual harassment lawsuit staring him in the face, his trade value has plummeted and it's clear the Warriors missed the boat on trading him.
Stephen Curry and Ellis are a great backcourt tandem, but the Warriors can't hope to contend in the West with the lineup they're putting forth.
The roster needs a shake-up and no piece should be considered off limits. Ellis is a fringe All-Star shooting guard whose lethal scoring ability would be incredibly attractive to a number of teams.
Unfortunately, he's now got more baggage than just injury concerns. His character is being called into question and the Warriors can't possibly hope to get equal value for them, should they decide that now is the time to flip him.
Ellis has been on the block for years now. Never has his stock been so low and the concerns surrounding him so high.
The Warriors' reluctance to make a move has proven costly. Should something actually come of this lawsuit, it's not the end of the world, but it's certainly going to put the Warriors in a far worse spot than if they would have made a move sooner.
Golden State didn't have to orchestrate a trade that brought in Dwight Howard to consider an Ellis-based trade an overwhelming success. Hindsight is always 20/20 and regardless of the outcome of this lawsuit, they're undoubtedly kicking themselves.
