Jaguars vs. Titans: 8 Things To Look for During Saturday's Game
The first game of the season seems like years ago, but the Jacksonville Jaguars will hold on to the memory of that game because it's one of the few bright spots for the team.
No longer is Luke McCown the quarterback leading the troops. No longer is Marcedes Lewis a big threat for this team or even a Pro Bowl caliber tight end.
No longer is Jack Del Rio making the decisions about X's and O's or who will be the next great passer on this team.
A long time ago, and a lot of changes later.
These are the 4-10 Jacksonville Jaguars. The ones now being led by Mel Tucker and a rookie behind center. These are the Jaguars who are playing for pride and a rushing title for Maurice Jones-Drew.
And these are the 4-10 Jaguars who now must face a 7-7 Tennessee Titans team that still has a slim chance of making the playoffs and are mindful that the loss to Jacksonville might come back to haunt them come the postseason.
These are a few things to look for during Saturday's contest.
8. How Will the Offensive Line Play
1 of 8Guy Whimper was injured in practice this week. The team already lost Eben Britton to IR earlier this season.
The offensive line, especially Whimper, looked out of sync last week against Atlanta. Defensive end John Abraham had 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles against the Jaguars.
Can this team put together solid pass blocking to give Blaine Gabbert time to get rid of the ball?
7. More Injury News
2 of 8Speaking of Whimper, he aggravated a knee injury last Thursday and has not practiced all week. Whether he plays or not known yet.
If Whimper does not play, undrafted rookie Cameron Bradfield will get the call.
Figure on the Titans trying to establish the running game early and often.
6. 266 Yards
3 of 8Maurice Jones-Drew is 266 yards away from 1,600 yards rushing, which would be the most any Jaguars runner has ever amassed.
While the season is lost for the team, can the offensive line and his teammates rally around him to help the team's leader earn his first NFL rushing title?
5. Special Teams Spectacular
4 of 8The special teams have scored in each of the last two games.
Can it keep up that pace?
Special teams Pro Bowl player Montell Owens has helped to create that spark.
The special teams was a bright spot last week in the 41-14 loss to Atlanta.
4. Thomas To Return to the Lineup?
5 of 8Receiver Mike Thomas suffered a concussion against Tampa Bay on Dec. 11 and has not been in the lineup since.
This week, he passed the concussion test and may see some action this week against the Titans secondary.
The Jaguars could use his speed on the outside and in the slot.
3. Paul Posluszny Continues To Be a Beast
6 of 8The first free agent to sign with the team in the offseason has proved to be worth every penny the team offered to him.
Paul Posluszny moved right into the middle of the Jaguars defense and hasn't missed a beat since his days in Buffalo.
He leads the team with 110 tackles on the season.
2. The Last Two Games Are No Cake Walks
7 of 8Tennessee has an outside chance at the playoffs and are certainly a better ballclub than Jacksonville.
The Indianapolis Colts have won two games in a row and look like they have life.
Jacksonville cannot look ahead or they will lose both these games and that could be devastating to the development of this team as it moves forward.
1. Revenge Is a Great Motivator
8 of 8When the Titans lost 16-14 in the first week, Chris Johnson was a none-factor in the contest. Kenny Britt was still catching passes, and Jake Locker hadn't made an NFL start.
While Johnson's productivity hasn't changed much, Locker has played this season, and Britt has been on IR.
How will the Titans use revenge as a factor in this contest and much will the secondary be exposed by Matt Hasselbeck's arm?
