Chelsea could stand to invigorate the emotions of skipper John Terry who has come under fire for supposed racist remarks made. A victory will no doubt mean that Terry put his personal woes behind him and stifled Emmanuel Adebayor more than once.
That is the kind of effort it's going to take for Chelsea to reassert themselves as EPL giants. At the moment, they have been nothing more than a great team mired by inconsistency. Those are the kinds of squads that get forced into the Europa League.
Chelsea simply can't continue this nauseating dance wherein they take two steps forward, only to take another back. Andre Villas-Boas has justly come under fire, as this squad has not been marked by a long string of positive momentum.
If things are to be salvaged, it has to happen now. There are far too many hungry teams sitting restless behind Chelsea for them to continue to struggle.
