WWE News: Injured WWE Diva Layla Reportedly Close to Returning to WWE

As you and I—and anyone over the age of 10—knows, the WWE Divas division is paper thin at the moment. 

Realistically speaking, there are only five Divas that are even relevant: Beth Phoenix, Natalya, Kelly Kelly, Eve and Alicia Fox. That’s pretty sad when you think about it, but that’s just the way it is right now. 

There are, however, at least a couple of glimmers of hope with the likely return of Kharma at some point in 2012 and the possibility of a feud between Beth and Natalya. 

And now, we’ve got another one.

Layla indicated Wednesday her return to the ring is drawing near. She tweeted,

“Who’s ready for wwe to become FLAWLESS again???” 

The final WWE Women’s Champion has been sidelined since May due to tears of both her Anterior cruciate and Medial collateral ligaments, which required surgery. She has undergone rehabilitation in the meantime. 

Meanwhile, retired Diva Michelle McCool said she’s ready for Layla’s return, adding, “Going thru photos…..good times!!! WWE needs some flawless back-FAST!”

You know how you don’t realize how much you miss someone until they’re gone? Well, that pretty much sums up how I feel about Layla. 

I wasn’t a big fan of Layla when she first started getting a big push as one half of LayCool, but the more I watched her, the more I noticed how much she improved and how good she is at what she does. 

No, she’s not a Trish Stratus or a Lita. But she’s got a ton of charisma, and she can work the mic better than just about any Diva currently in the WWE. 

Although Layla can be a little annoying at times, she is actually a pretty well-rounded wrestler, not to mention one who is nice to look at. Outside of the WWE signing some of the top female wrestlers on the indy scene or bringing back some big names from the past, having Layla return is about the best thing that can happen to the Divas division at the moment. 

Layla is great as a heel, but she can work as a baby face as well, especially when you consider that Beth and Natalya really need someone else to feud with. 

I would love to see Layla come back at some point early in 2012 to feud with Beth for the Divas Championship—either at the Royal Rumble or at WrestleMania if Kharma won’t be back by then.
