WWE News: John Cena and Kane to Feud over the WWE Championship Soon?

Drake OzDec 22, 2011

In a seven-day span earlier this month, Kane returned to the WWE with his mask on and attacked John Cena, and then Cena was held off the WWE TLC pay-per-view.

It was almost as if WWE officials were giving Cena haters an early Christmas present by keeping him out of the WWE Championship scene and having Kane lay him out with a devastating chokeslam.

For once, we thought that Cena might be out of the WWE title picture for a while as he dealt with The Big Red Monster. But don’t count your chickens before they hatch because that might not be happening after all.

From WrestleNewz.com:

"

The Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, Kansas is advertising a WWE Title Match between John Cena and Kane for the February 3rd RAW live event. CM Punk vs. Alberto Del Rio is also advertised.

"

Uh oh.

This is just an advertisement that is obviously done well in advance of the actual show, so it could wind up meaning absolutely nothing. On the other hand, it does indicate that there are probably at least tentative plans to put the WWE Championship on either Kane or Cena at some point in early 2012.

Good lord. I really hope that isn’t the case.

When CM Punk vowed on the episode of Raw after Survivor Series to hold onto the WWE Championship for as long as possible, I believed him. I thought that WWE officials finally realized that the silly game of championship hot potato had to stop.

Now, though, this advertisement has me a little nervous about the possibility of the creative team taking the title off Punk and putting it on Kane or Cena. It wouldn’t be as bad if the WWE Championship was on Kane instead of Cena, but I still think that that is a feud that needs no title.

If Kane wanted to go after the WWE title, then he should have just attacked Punk upon his return. That would have made a lot more sense than the WWE putting the strap back on Cena for the umpteenth time.

Like I said, there don’t appear to be concrete plans to have Punk lose the title and either Kane or Cena win it. But this little advertisement will unfortunately be in the back of my mind for the foreseeable future.
