Arsenal vs. Aston Villa Video: Watch the 20,000th Goal in Premier League History

Aston Villa midfielder Marc Albrighton scored the 20,000th goal in Premier League history on Wednesday against Arsenal. The 22-year-old Englishman took advantage of some poor defending by the Gunners back line to secure the milestone tally.

A video of the goal and announcement is embedded above.

Albrighton was an unlikely player to net the marquee goal considering he had only one mark on the score sheet in 12 league games heading into the match. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time following an ill-advised header by Arsenal in the 54th minute.

He picks up the lose ball, skirts past Per Mertesacker and makes no mistake as Wojciech Szczeny comes out to challenge. It's a superb goal considering how much effort Albrighton put in to pressure the defense into such a crucial mistake.

Luckily for him, nobody will remember how ugly the defending was on the play in the future. He can pass it off as an awe-inspiring volley from 35 yards out if he wants to. That's the way a legend grows.

The first goal in Premier League history came in 1992 by Sheffield United's Brian Deane. There have been some legendary names that have added to the total in a big way throughout the years, including Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry and Michael Owen.

Unfortunately for Villa, the goal came in a losing effort, as Yossi Benayoun scored in the 87th minute to give Arsenal a 2-1 victory. The Gunners were the better team for most of the game, so it's a deserved three points for Arsene Wenger's squad.

That said, it does provide a little rain on Albrighton's parade. It's still a moment that he'll never forget, and now, he'll always been remembered through the world of football trivia. Not to mention his career is still young, so there's always room for a couple more memorable strikes.

As for today, he'll be content with scoring No. 20,000 at Villa Park.
