College Football Recruiting 2012: Recruiting Christmas Wish for BCS Bowl Teams

Edwin WeathersbyDec 21, 2011

Merry Christmas to all my recruiting fans and politically correct "Happy Holidays" to all. Today we're just going to take a look at the BCS bowl teams and give you one Xmas wish that they have as far as recruiting goes.

These are wishes that really speak to that "If I had one wish for Santa" for these programs from a recruiting aspect. Santa may or may not grant these wishes, but these are what the BCS teams are asking for.

Here we go.

Clemson

1 of 10

For me, the Tigers are writing a letter to Santa asking that he put a commitment from big DT Eddie Goldman under their tree. Goldman has Clemson in his top seven, and the Tigers are battling some power houses for the stud trench defender.

West Virginia

2 of 10

Dana Holgorsen got the Mountaineers to a BCS bowl game in his first year, so it looks like WVU has found their long-term coach. On the recruiting front, Holgorsen has over 20 pledges and is doing well.

However, I think his Xmas wish list has a commitment from WR Cyrus Jones on top of it. An announcement could come before Sunday.

Stanford

3 of 10

The Cardinal go to the Fiesta Bowl this year and have a shot at landing the top class in the Pac-12. I know it's in on Josh Garnett and are holding onto Noor Davis with dear might.

But I'm going with Andrus Peat, the 5-star OT, as their top Xmas wish this year. Peat has taken a trip to Stanford and enjoyed himself.

The Pokes felt miffed for being denied a chance to play for the title, but still a Fiesta Bowl berth is big news in Stillwater. On the recruiting front, they've been hit with some de-commitments, but I do like WR/DE Kendall Sanders.

Their Xmas wish has to be RB Barry Sanders. Period. No ifs, ands or buts about it.

Michigan

5 of 10

Michigan has stormed back this year, on the field and on the trail. Brady Hoke must have the Lloyd Carr blueprint of 'How to be a successful Michigan coach in the post Bo Schembechler Era" because Hoke looks good right now.

Big Blue has over 20 pledges and could land a top five class next February. I have them wishing to Santa that 5-star OL Josh Garnett chooses to be a Wolverine.

Virginia Tech

6 of 10

Frank Beamer has over 23 commitments so far this year and will likely land a top 20-25 class. VaTech usually finds a way to sign a 5-star prospect every few years, going back to signing Michael Vick then Kevin Jones earlier last decade.

This year I think they are hoping that trend hits with one Stefon Diggs, a 5-star WR that can also play RB, DB and RS.

Wisconsin

7 of 10

The Badgers don't have much depth in this class with only 12 commits, but they have solid quality. I think they are hoping that quality can continue with solid OT prospect Jordan Diamond, as they are wishing for a good trip in January and signed LOI in February.

Oregon

8 of 10

Oregon has gotten on track as of late this recruiting cycle after a slow start. With the Rose Bowl coming up, you have to figure the Duck staff will be out in about around SoCal trying to lure talent to Eugene.

I think they are wishing this Xmas that Los Angeles area and 5-star DT Ellis McCarthy opts to come to OU over USC.

Alabama

9 of 10

The Tide are always doing it big on the trail. You could argue that they never wish for anything because even if they're naughty all year, they're so dominant on the trail Santa still gives them what they wish for.

But, while 'Bama is still in on several big name prospects, including a few on this list, I think right now they are wishing for DE/OLB Jordan Jenkins to decide on Tuscaloosa.

LSU

10 of 10

Easy pick here: It's Landon Collins. The Tigers are wishing that Santa Claus gives them a commitment from Landon Collins under their tree.

Collins is a 5-star safety prospect that is also seriously considering Alabama and Texas. However, he's from Louisiana and grew up down the road from Baton Rouge.
