Green Bay Packers: 5 Potential Playoff Teams Who Match Up Best with Them

Scott L. HutchinsonDec 20, 2011

The Green Bay Packers were shocked last weekend, suffering their first loss of the season at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs, but at 13-1, it's hard to say that Green Bay isn't still the team to beat in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers and his Packers look to be on the fast track to Super Bowl glory for a second straight year, but it won't be easy.

Here's a look at five playoff teams that could very well give Green Bay some trouble this postseason.

5) Baltimore Ravens

1 of 5

Although Baltimore's loss to San Diego last week was far from impressive, the Ravens have the ability to beat absolutely anyone in the NFL when they're clicking on all cylinders.

Should we see a Packers-Raven Super Bowl, the entire game could essentially come down to the play of Baltimore's Joe Flacco.

If the young quarterback could take care of the football, keeping Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense on the sidelines, the Ravens' veteran D could take it from there.

It wouldn't be easy, but Baltimore certainly has what it takes to knock off the defending champs.

4) New England Patriots

2 of 5

While it's scary to think what Aaron Rodgers could potentially do to New England's porous secondary, Tom Brady and his Patriots could still pose a serious threat for Green Bay should the two dynasties meet this postseason.

For whatever reason, football followers seem to be forgetting just how good the Patriots actually are.

Their defense, though suspect at times, is full of playmakers capable of creating turnovers, while their offense is undoubtedly one of the NFL's best.

They're an experienced, explosive franchise with the potential to beat anyone on any given week, and it's hard to count them out, no matter the situation.

3) Pittsburgh Steelers

3 of 5

Pittsburgh's Monday night loss to San Francisco was ugly to say the least, but the Steelers still have to be respected as one of the NFL's most dangerous teams.

It's no secret that Pittsburgh's No. 1 defense is one of the league's most impenetrable in recent memory, but it's the Steelers' underrated offense that could create some major issues for Green Bay should the two teams meet.

The Packers give up an average of 289.4 passing yards per game, and Big Ben Roethlisberger could be their worst nightmare if he's back to full health come playoff time.

Between Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown, Heath Miller and the rest of Pittsburgh's talented receiving corps, Roethlisberger has an endless supply of weapons at his disposal.

That could spell trouble for Green Bay.

2. San Francisco 49ers

4 of 5

The San Francisco 49ers have very quietly put together an impressive 11-3 season, and while much of America still isn't sold on the boys out West, the Niners could very realistically make a run deep into the playoffs.

Should they run into Green Bay along the way, they could actually match up quite well with the 13-1 Pack.

Much of the the Niners' success this season has been due to their ability to rush the passer. If they could force Aaron Rodgers to make some uncharacteristic mistakes, Frank Gore and the rest of San Fran's efficient, clock-controlling offense could keep the Pack offense on the sideline and manage the game en route to a surprising W.

1) New Orleans Saints

5 of 5

What makes the New Orleans Saints such a scary matchup for the Packers?

The two teams are extremely similar.

Both have unstoppable quarterbacks, an array of talented receivers and big-play defenses that keep them in ball games. The only difference between New Orleans and Green Bay seems to be that the Saints have a much deeper and more effective rushing attack than the Packers.

Should the two franchises meet in a harsh, wintery environment, the Saints' ability to move the ball on the ground could give them an edge over the more pass-dependent Pack.

Green Bay got the best of New Orleans in Week 1, but the tables could very well turn should there be a second meeting.
