3 Reasons Neymar Will Not Sign with FC Barcelona

Sandro Rosell, FC Barcelona President, was interviewed by A Tribuna (and published in Goal) about Neymar signing with FC Barcelona. 

He said that Pep Guardiola is the ultimate authority in signing Neymar with Barca.

The declarations were made in reaction to news about a possible deal which would land Neymar at Camp Nou. Rosell, with his statement, closed the door on Neymar moving to Barca for now.

The statement made by Rosell should serve as a reminder why Neymar will not sign with FC Barcelona. The other reasons why Neymar will not sign with FC Barcelona are numerous, but can be reduced into three cardinal reasons.

Santos FC and Brazil

Neymar signed a contract extension with Santos FC in November of 2011. The terms of the contract will have Neymar in Santos until after the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Luis Alvaro Ribeiro, Santos FC President, lambasted Real Madrid when the club attempted to sign Neymar.

Financial

According to an article published by fellow B/R writer Anurag Bhatt, financial concerns are another reason for Neymar not signing with Barca. Javier Faus, FC Barcelona Economics Affairs Vice President, announced at the beginning of the 2011-2012 season that the transfer budget will not exceed $59 million.

Anurag Bhatt mentioned that Barca spent an equivalent amount to bring Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez. FC Barcelona also posted a total loss of $137 million within two consecutive seasons.

The (financial) losses might place Barca under the scrutiny of the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules

Lack of Decision and Coordination

While Barca is firm when it comes to decision and coordination, Neymar and his manager are not. It doesn't appear that this is helpful for negotiate.

During the Summer Transfer Window, Neymar and his agent talked about Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. The results were like the song "Dust In The Wind," recorded decades ago by the American rock group Kansas.

In closing, while there are reasons suggesting that Neymar will not sign with Barca in January, nothing is absolute in the sports world.
