Can Anyone Face John Cena at Wrestlemania Without It Being Repetitive?

JDec 30, 2008

Let me start off by making the assumption that John Cena will not lose his World Heavyweight Championship before Wrestlemania. If that changes then rest of my article become irrelevant, but personally I think he will last until then.

As a lot of us will have read or heard Batista is out of the WWE for around six months, and is not due to be back until after Wrestlemania. This ruins the plans that the WWE creative team supposedly had for the Cena vs. Batista rematch at Wretlemania 25.

This leads me to wonder how anybody could face John Cena for the title without facing either previous Wrestlemania’s opponents, or a current rival. Now you might call me an expletive at this point because the circle of people that both world champions face on a regular basis is pretty limited and it is hard for the WWE to give Cena an opponent at Wrestlemania he hasn’t faced recently, but indulge me for a moment.

On the Raw roster there are only a few people I can think that would currently warrant a title shot at Wrestlemania, and I want to quickly write about each of them:

Chris Jericho – Jericho has faced Cena at the past two PPV’s, and I really don’t want to see that rivalry continued at Wrestlemania. Some have predicted a Jericho win at the Royal Rumble, but how repetitive of a match would that at Wrestlemania 25?

JBL – Bradshaw is in line for a match at the Royal Rumble for the title, and if my prayers are answered he won’t win it, so surely that rivalry won’t be carried on for 3 PPVs into Wrestlemania will it? I really doubt the WWE would do that to us, but if they did it would be oh so boring.

Triple H – Yes, I’m quite aware that HHH isn’t on the Raw roster, but B/R writer Joe Burgett recently wrote that he could come back to Raw in Batista’s absence, and I don’t want to omit the possibility. Assuming he did come back, would the match at Wrestlemania not be a carbon copy (minus Randy Orton) of last years Wrestlemania? I think this is a less likely possibility than Randy Orton, who I’m about to write about, but would we really want to see that again?

Randy Orton – Randy seem to be the best bet for a Wrestlemania 25 opponent now, but again the same question remains, to we want to see that two Wrestlemanias in a row? Randy probably deserves a shot considering he hasn’t had one since his return, and with Batista out I cant see what other option they have.

I wouldn’t mind a match between Cena and Orton at Wrestlemania because im sure it would be a good match, but when it comes to Wrestlemania I expect something new and exciting. Assuming there is no freak result at the Royal Rumble I would imagine one or possibly more of these guys will contend for the title come April, but can it really be and original match?

Who do you think Cena will face at Wrestlamania assuming he will still have the title?
