Liverpool FC Is Scouting Universidad De Chile Goal Machine Eduardo Vargas

As is the case usually with the winter transfer window knocking on the door, almost every decent-enough club is linked with dozens of players from all over the world.

One of the latest developments with regards to Liverpool FC has been the linking of yet another South American talent, this time from Chile.

The name: Eduardo Vargas from Universidad de Chile.

The 22-year-old has been pretty sensational of late and has been consistently linked with Chelsea—among other English clubs—and the usual suspect Inter Milan.

The Chilean marksman may be piquing the interest of many a secret admirer, but after his feats in the Copa Sudamericana, the list of admirers seems to have suddenly surged.

The Chilean, who is also amongst the nominations for the prestigious "South American Footballer of the Year," scored 11 goals in 12 matches in the competition, including a double against Ecuador's Liga De Quito to win the first-ever continental trophy for his club.

Vargas is now also the record goal scorer in the tournament.

Now Vargas' main skills have been tremendous pace and a very good eye for goal, both of which could ease the goal scoring drought that Liverpool are experiencing now.

Reds manager Kenny Dalglish and football director Damien Comolli may have had exactly this in mind when they reportedly sent scouts to watch the lethal Chilean; if impressed they could easily come up with a bid for the player in the January transfer window.

Reports suggest Vargas could cost about £15 million, but the bid would go down well with Liverpool's recent policy to acquire young players with potentially high resale value.

Barring stiff competition which may arise for the player, the other issue with Vargas could be the very strict norms to obtain a work permit in the U.K., since he's featured in only nine matches for his country to date.

However, one report says that if Vargas chooses a British club, he still could manage a permit.

Liverpool will hope that's the case.
