World Football: Los Angeles Galaxy's Landon Donovan Returns to Everton on Loan

More than one year ago, Landon Donovan said farewell to Everton football club after a successful loan spell.

“It was a little bittersweet to leave, but the reality was that the agreement all along was for me to be there until March 15,” the Galaxy team captain told reporters. “I’m a big part of this team and I understand that and I enjoy being a part of this team. I wouldn’t have made the commitment I did to this team if I didn't want to be here.”

But as the old saying goes: once a Toffee, always a Toffee.

Such is the case with Donovan, who will be going off on a two-month loan spell with Everton Football Club this winter.

Donovan is expected to make his season debut for David Moyes's side on Jan. 4 when they face struggling Bolton Wanderers at Goodison Park. The loan lasts until February 25, when Everton takes on Liverpool at Anfield.

“The opportunity to return to Everton and play for such a well-respected club and a manager that I hold in such high regard was something that was simply too good to pass up. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Everton in 2010 and I’m hopeful that we can experience similar success this time around,” Donovan told reporters. “I want to thank David Moyes and Bruce Arena, as well as executives from both clubs and Major League Soccer for allowing me this unique and special opportunity.”'

With the signing, Donovan is reunited with fellow USA Men's National Team goalkeeper Tim Howard.
