Boston Celtics Rumors: News of Rajon Rondo Outburst During NBA Playoffs Emerges

Matt ShetlerDec 15, 2011

When Rajon Rondo's name initially popped up in trade rumors a couple of weeks ago, many were shocked that the Boston Celtics were willing to part with their point guard. Rondo was seen as a main piece of a team looking to make a run at another championship.

However, after details were released about Rondo's outburst during last season's playoffs, maybe the Celtics were anxious to get rid of him if the right deal came along.

Nothing Rondo does on the court has ever been questioned, but even in college, at Kentucky, Rondo's temper was a concern.

The incident in question occurred during the Celtics' video session between Games 2 and 3 of the Miami Heat series in last season’s playoffs.

According to the Bolton Herald, when Rondo’s mistakes were being pointed out, he arose and began to point out the mistakes of his teammates—loudly, and using harsh language.

He then threw a bottle, shattering the video screen after Celtics head coach Doc Rivers fired back. He then stormed out of the Celtics practice facility and was prevented from returning when later attempted to.

The biggest question following all of this is whether Rivers can still trust his point guard.

When Danny Ainge put Rondo on the market in an attempt to acquire Chris Paul, was he answering that question instead with a big "no"?

Ainge repeatedly denied that he had offered Rondo for Paul, but one league GM said that Ainge was offering Rondo around the league.

If the Celtics are to contend for a championship this season, a lot of it is on Rondo's shoulders.

Can he be a guy that shows maturity, improves his shooting and plays consistent basketball?

If not, and if any more blowups happen, he could be doing it in a different uniform.
