Ranking the Top 10 Quarterbacks in the NFL Entering Week 15

Tony SantorsaDec 14, 2011

A direct cause to winning in the NFL is having an elite quarterback. For instance, take the top three quarterbacks in the NFL: Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers.

Now just ask me: What are the records of their respected teams?

Well, they're a combined 33-6.

With that being said, allow me to reveal to you the top 10 quarterbacks entering the NFL's Week 15.

10. T.J. Yates

Well, wouldn't you say that this one is a bit bold? Well it's true. T.J. Yates is one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL today.

Yates showed that he can win games in the clutch for the Houston Texans last week, as he threw the game-winning touchdown with just two seconds left on the clock to beat the Cincinnati Bengals, 20-19.

In three games this season for Houston, Yates is completing 54.8 percent of his passes for 558 yards and three touchdowns compared to only one interception.

9. Cam Newton

Playing against the NFL's toughest schedule, Cam Newton has played out of his mind.

The rookie out of Auburn has posted an 81.1 quarterback rating through 13 games this season as he's thrown 15 touchdowns as well as ran in an incredible 13 touchdowns on the ground.

Newton and the Carolina Panthers are not winning right now, but they will win many games in the near future.

In order to be an elite quarterback, Tony Romo needs to put up huge numbers in games that matter the most for the Dallas Cowboys.

Either way, Romo is having a very good statistic season as he's posted a 100.6 quarterback rating while throwing for 3,646 yards and tossing 26 touchdowns compared to only nine interceptions.

Matthew Stafford has been rather inconsistent for the Detroit Lions this season but has managed to post a 92.6 quarterback rating.

Stafford has thrown 29 touchdowns while leading his Lions to a solid 8-5 record.

Believe it or not: Tim Tebow is one of the NFL's best quarterbacks. However, you have to realize that Tebow is not your traditional quarterback, he's playing the position to the best of his ability, and that's simply resulting in victories.

Tebow has completed only 48.5 percent of his passes this season, but he's thrown 11 touchdowns and only two interceptions in 11 games this season for the Broncos.

Ben Roethlisberger is the NFL's toughest quarterback—his pain endurance is freakish.

Big Ben has led his Pittsburgh Steelers to a solid 10-3 record thus far in 2011, as he's posted a 95.6 quarterback rating while tossing 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Eli Manning could very well be the NFL's most-clutch quarterback in the game today as he's coming off his 19th career fourth-quarter comeback against the Dallas Cowboys.

So far in 2011, Manning is playing at an elite level, as he's completing 62 percent of his passes while accumulating 25 touchdowns in 13 games for the New York Giants.

3. Tom Brady

Tom Brady is like a fine wine—with age, he only gets better.

Brady is playing at an elite level right now with the New England Patriots as he's coming off a 357-yard passing game against the Washington Redskins.

Through 13 games, Brady has a 106.0 quarterback rating with 33 touchdowns and 4,273 passing yards.

2. Drew Brees

Unless something devastating happens, Drew Brees will likely surpass Dan Marino for the most passing yards in a single season in NFL history.

Brees has the New Orleans Saints to a solid 10-3 record through 14 weeks in 2011. Brees has recorded a 105.9 quarterback rating while completing a phenomenal 70.9 percent of his passes for a whopping 4,368 passing yards.

1. Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers is simply playing on another planet right now. He's that good.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP has led his Green Bay Packers to a perfect 13-0 record thus far in 2011 while posting an incredible 123.3 quarterback rating. Rodgers has completed 69.6 percent of his passes for 39 touchdowns and only six interceptions.

Can you get much better than Rodgers? Absolutely not.
