Creature Vs. Creature: The Future of Professional Wrestling Found

Daris BrownDec 30, 2008

When speaking of the future of pro wrestling many fans look toward Ted DiBiase, Kofi Kingston, John Morrison, or Evan Bourne. All of which are good choices but all are flawed.

If Vinnie Mac is truly looking to revive the success of the late '90s there's only one man he can count on, Jack Swagger.

If you take a look at those who are labeled the greatest of all time (with the exception of Hogan) the common thing they all share is pure athleticism. From the Rock to Flair to Stone Cold to Taker all of these guys were very good football or basketball players before they ever stepped into the ring.

And If you look at those labeled great workers they've all been successful armature wrestlers, Kurt Angle, Bret Hart, Gerald Brisco.

You can throw Jack Swagger's name right along with them. Don't see it yet? Read on.

Wrestling since the age of five, Jack Swagger has mixed pure talent with undeniable skill. Recruited by Oklahoma to be a two sport athlete, a defensive tackle and wrestler, Swagger is a beast to be reckoned with. This isn't some junior college, it's a perennial national powerhouse.

Swagger, an All-American, went on to win multiple tournaments and in his senior season he set a school record for 30 pins. To put that in perspective, Matt Fields the heavyweight from 2008 NCAA championship team only had five pins this season.

And those are just his amateur stats.

Upon taking the professional route, Swagger immediately made his presence made. He defeated Ted DiBiase (the so-called future) to become the first ever Unified FCW Heavyweight Champion.

And if you take a look at all the recent athletes who've had success, Angle, Lesner, Lashley, they've all had extensive wrestling backgrounds.

Ted DiBiase was one verse away from becoming a pastor. Kofi Kingston had some high school wrestling skills, but the college level is a whole nother ball game. And John Morrison majored in film and got his break via a reality show. Would he truly be here if the cameras stopped rolling?

On the other hand Swagger's wrestling skills are unmatched and he's gaining on the entertainment side daily. Add in the tutelage from the legendary Dr. Death Steve Williams and you have your future found and he goes by the name Jack Swagger.
