WWE News: Disturbing Trend in Monday Night Raw Ratings Continues This Week

Drake OzDec 15, 2011

Like anything else in life, the ratings for Monday Night Raw tend to fluctuate from time to time.

They go up, they go down and then they stay the same for a while. Unless it’s the summer months or early in the NFL season, you can’t really predict what’s going to happen with the ratings or when WWE broadcasts in general are going to draw more or less viewers.

However, I’m sure people within the WWE aren’t all that thrilled with what’s been going on with the ratings as of late.

Monday’s special 3-hour Slammy RAW drew a 2.84 rating.  The final 2 hours (RAW’s usual timeslot) did a 2.98 – virtually even with last week’s 2.97. Continuing the trend of losing viewership in the final hour of the show, hour 3 did a lower rating than hour 2 this week.

"

This obviously isn’t a good thing for the WWE, and I’m going to hold out hope that company officials don’t freak out and throw the WWE championship back on John Cena in a fruitless attempt to spike the ratings again.

Honestly, I wouldn’t read too much into these ratings.

Everyone in the WWE would clearly prefer if the ratings went up rather than down as the show progressed, but that’s just not going to happen if what we see in the first hour doesn’t make us want to watch what will happen in the second hour.

For the most part, the WWE has been delivering some solid matches in the second half of Raw over the last month or so. However, it’s the beginning that is probably turning viewers off.

It’s not a huge deal, though.

Football is still going on, and the WWE is headed toward a B-level pay-per-view with WWE TLC. Things should change once we enter 2012.

The build to the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania season tends to be the best time of the year for the WWE in terms of TV ratings. Therefore, once we get past TLC and on the road to Wrestlemania, things—including ratings—should pick back up for the WWE.
