Chicago Bulls: 3 Reasons to Believe Derrick Rose Has Enough Help in Chicago

Jason ChaeDec 13, 2011

The main question about the upcoming Bulls season is if Derrick Rose has enough talent around him to win a championship. It is usually thought around the NBA that it takes at least two legitimate superstar players to build a championship team. Although Rose is surrounded by a nice core of players, he doesn't have a true superstar playing with him. Despite that, there are reasons to be optimistic about the supporting cast around him.

The Bulls have one of the deepest teams in the league.

The 66-game schedule in a very condensed time period will contribute to a lot of physical wear on NBA players this season. Teams that aren't very deep will suffer because players will have to rest on back to-back-to-back games. The Bulls had one of the best second units in the game last season, and having a deep bench should put pressure of Rose.

The expected addition of Rip Hamilton will help take the scoring load off Rose.

The biggest problem Rose and the Bulls faced last season was the lack of a shooting guard option. Keith Bogans provided solid defense and a guy who would occasionally hit an open three, but not much else. Ronnie Brewer was a more athletic option and also played good defense but he isn't a shooter. Kyle Korver is one of the best three point shooters in the game, but he has no other above average skill in the NBA.

Rip Hamilton can defend well and has a better rounded offensive game than all three players mentioned.

Carlos Boozer has shown up to training camp in excellent shape.

By all accounts, Boozer has shed 20 pounds and has said he is out to prove his critics from last season wrong. Boozer didn't have a bad year by any means, but he was very inconsistent, especially in the playoffs. Boozer averaged 12.6 points per game on 43 percent shooting in the playoffs. That can't happen again. He needs to be contributing at least 17 to 18 points a game and shoot over 50 percent as he has done his entire career.

While it would be nice for the Bulls to acquire another superstar such as Dwight Howard to team up with Rose, it doesn't appear that will happen this season. However, these three reasons should keep Bulls fans optimistic about this season. After all, no one expected the Bulls to have the best regular season record last year, and team should be improved this season.
