Chris Paul Trade Rumors: Why the Los Angeles Clippers Is Ideal Destination

Matt ShetlerDec 12, 2011

Chris Paul isn't heading to the Los Angeles Lakers after the latest attempts to revive the vetoed trade from Thursday failed over the weekend.

However, Paul could still be on his way to Los Angeles very soon.

The latest rumors have Paul heading to the cross-town rival Clippers instead of the Lakers. For Paul, it would be a fantastic move.

While Paul had a desire to play in New York or with the Lakers, the Clippers could be an even better destination for him.

For one, he's surrounded by a stud in Blake Griffin. Griffin isn't a guy who's in the middle or toward the end of his career. Paul would get to pair himself with a dominant big man who's just beginning his career. The Paul-Griffin duo has the chance to be dominant for many years to come, and Griffin has to be attractive to any point guard looking for a team to play.

It's not just Griffin, though—the Clippers as a whole are a good up-and-coming team.

The Clippers will match the Warriors' offer sheet to DeAndre Jordan, which gives them a very solid young front court for years. Add to that the recent signing of Caron Butler and with Paul in the mix, Los Angeles can throw a formidable starting lineup on the floor every night.

Depending on what the Clippers will have to give up to acquire Paul, they will likely lose the talented Eric Gordon, Eric Bledsoe or possibly both, but even if they do this can be a dangerous team with Paul.

He wouldn't be joining a team that possibly has a window of three or four years to win a championship. Paul would be heading to a team that has its entire future in front of it.

That future is a very bright one and for Paul, the Clippers could be a great fit.
