Georgia Football: Ranking the Top 5 Offensive Players of 2011

Brian JonesDec 11, 2011

The Georgia Bulldogs won 10 games this season because they made plays on defense, but they also had some playmakers on offense.

In fact, Orson Charles and Cordy Glenn made the All-SEC first team while Aaron Murray and Ben Jones made the second team.

But who were the best offensive players for the Bulldogs?

Who were the guys opposing defenses had to pay close attention to every time they were on the field?

Here's a look a the top five offensive players for the Bulldogs this season.

No. 5: OL Cordy Glenn

1 of 5

Last year, Glenn was playing the guard position and was named to the Pro Football Weekly All-America team.

This season, Glenn was moved to the tackle position and was named to the Coaches and AP First Team All-SEC.

Glenn was one of the biggest of the Bulldogs offensive linemen, and he used his size and quickness to run over defenders all season long.

He will be a huge loss next year and the Bulldogs will try to rebuild the offensive line.

No 4: WR Malcolm Mitchell

2 of 5

With A.J. Green in the NFL, there was a level of concern with the wide receiver position.

But when Mitchell exploded onto the scene this year, those concerns were put to rest.

Mitchell was named to the Freshman All-SEC team and averaged 61 receiving yards per game (fourth-best in the conference).

Mitchell has the explosion that you want in a No. 1 receiver and if he continues to develop, he could be the best receiver in the SEC by his junior year.

No. 3: TE Orson Charles

3 of 5

It may not seem like it, but Charles had a better season in 2011 than in 2010.

Charles had 44 catches for 572 yards with five touchdowns this season, which is far better than the 26 catches for 422 yards and two touchdowns he produced last year.

For his efforts, Charles was named to the AFCA All-America team and the Walter Camp All-America Second Team.

For the last two years, Charles has been the best tight end in the conference and it will be interesting to see if he stays for his junior year or decides to take his talents to the NFL.

No. 2: RB Isaiah Crowell

4 of 5

Crowell did have some off-the-field issues and had trouble staying healthy, but when he was on the field, he showed why he was one of the top high school running backs in the country last year.

Crowell rushed for 847 yards and five touchdowns, and the AP named him as the SEC Freshman of the Year.

Crowell does have some growing up to do in order to take that next step, but there is no question he is the most talented running back on the roster since Knowshon Moreno.

No. 1: QB Aaron Murray

5 of 5

For the Bulldogs to win 10 games this season, some of the credit has to go to Murray.

While he did not always play his best during the winning streak, Murray always found a way to make a play when the team needed it the most.

Murray threw for for 2,861 yards and a school record 33 touchdowns. He was also named to the Coaches All-SEC Second Team as well as the AP All-SEC Second Team.

He had a great freshman season and a better sophomore season. If Murray improves next season, he could be in the running for numerous awards such as the Heisman.
