Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson: 4 Hip-Hop Analogies to Describe Havoc's Night

What has been lost in the controversy of the decision and Amir Khan's less-than-stellar outing is the performance and journey of Washington, DC's own Lamont "Havoc" Peterson.

Peterson's story is a great one and despite the actions of the referee, he fought an outstanding fight. He earned the decision based on his effort, competitiveness and guts.

He inspired me to draw a parallel between two of my biggest passions: hip-hop and boxing. Here are four hip hop songs that further describe Havoc's night.

I haven't been a huge Diddy fan since Big and Craig Mack were alive and/or prominent (which is why my quote cuts off before Diddy begins his verse), but Peterson's triumphant return to his hometown is inspiring.

You can't have much of heart if you aren't happy for him. A kid who, along with his brother, was left homeless and alone due to an imprisoned father and a mother with issues that made her unfit to raise her children. This is a story of a kid and man who beat the odds and statistics.

Obviously, you can replace hip-hop with boxing in Peterson's case. While homeless at the age of 10, boxing coach Barry Hunter noticed Lamont and his brother and introduced them to boxing. Both Peterson brothers experienced great amateur success, and now both are successful professionals. Anthony was victorious on the under-card of Lamont's bout with Khan.

Who knows what would have happened to the Peterson brothers without boxing?

There are certainly big things in store for Peterson. This fight already represented the biggest payday of Peterson's career. You can best be sure he will walk away with a bigger payday in the rematch. This should also ensure at least two more nice paydays for Peterson as well.

Peterson took advantage of his opportunity to get it done. On the biggest stage of his career, against the most ballyhooed opponent, Peterson lost himself in the moment. Point deductions and poor Khan performances aside, the moment was Peterson's.
