Arizona State Football: Latest MAACO Bowl News and Updates
The Arizona State Sun Devils and Boise State Broncos are just about a week and half away from playing each other in the MAACO Bowl. The Las Vegas bowl game will host two teams that have been in the news quite a bit since the regular season came to a close.
Updated Betting Line
According to keggsneggsblog.com, the MAACO Bowl currently has the Broncos at 13.5 point favorites over the Sun Devils.
Sun Devils News
According to coach Dennis Erickson, junior linebacker Vontaze Burfict will be traveling with the team to Las Vegas. It still hasn't been determined if he will be allowed to play, as Burfict has been in Erickson's doghouse following a second half pull out of the Sun Devils last home game against the California Golden Bears.
Without Burfict, it is really hard to determine if the Sun Devils would be better off. Some would argue that they would be rid of some stupid penalties, but in the end there is no doubt that Burfict is the impact player on the Sun Devils defense.
If Burfict isn't allowed to play, who knows what his decision will be for the 2012 season. His absence will hurt his draft chances, so perhaps under a new coach Burfict will decide to return for his senior season.
In the Sun Devils coaching search news, the team has yet to still decide on who will lead the team next season. The team had a deal set with Southern Methodist Mustangs head coach June Jones, but the team pulled back on the decision following booster backlash and financial reasons.
Boise State News
The Broncos don't have any real updates on their part. This past week, the team made their big move to the Big East for the 2013 season following yet again another perceived BCS snub.
With their move, Broncos' coach Chris Petersen looks to be in for the long run, as he will be able to develop his team over the next two years to make the impact that they have been making for the past few years. Petersen is in the last year of his contract, and with all other coaching jobs being filled, it seems as if his time in Boise will continue.
Sun Devils Injury Updates
No new updates, as the team appears to be healthy throughout the entire line up that has played the last few weeks.
Boise State Injury Updates
CB Ebenezer Makinde: The Broncos CB remains questionable following a leg injury he sustained in Week 13. Makinde is only a backup who has only played in five games this season.
CB James Taylor: Another Bronco CB will be questionable for the MAACO Bowl. Taylor has been suffering from a lingering leg injury for the past three weeks. Taylor has appeared in seven games this season while recording 17 tackles.
LB Tommy Smith: The Broncos will be without backup linebacker Smith following a broken leg he sustained against New Mexico in Week 13.
