Giants vs. Cowboys: Battle Between NFC East Foes a Tale of Inconsistency

Ryan RudnanskyDec 11, 2011

Sunday night's matchup puts the NFC-East leading Dallas Cowboys against the New York Giants in Arlington.

And, the truth is, there is no way to predict who is going to win this game.

Both the Cowboys and the Giants have been extremely inconsistent this season.

The Cowboys, led by a quarterback in Tony Romo who can disappear late in games, have gone 7-5. They've beaten such teams as the San Francisco 49ers, but have also lost to the struggling Philadelphia Eagles via blowout and to the Arizona Cardinals last week.

The Giants are now 6-6 after losing their last four games, including to the Eagles, 17-10. But they nearly handed the undefeated Green Bay Packers their first loss of the season last week, losing 38-35.

Both teams, even with several injuries, have the talent to come away with the NFC East title this season. However, it's still unclear who can separate themselves. This game will give us a good idea, but the reality is even if the Giants beat the Cowboys on Sunday and surpass them in the division, they could conceivably lose the next week against the 4-9 Washington Redskins, which they did in Week 1.

The long and short of it is that the NFC East, which was projected to be a very competitive division this season, has not lived up to the hype, and I don't mean just the "Dream Team" Eagles.

Who will win on Sunday?

That all depends on who decides to come to play.

I'm inclined to give the game to the Cowboys, given they are 5-1 at home this season, but they are so unpredictable, I just don't know what to think anymore.

I called the Giants the San Diego Chargers of the East earlier this season.

The reality is, the Cowboys aren't far from that designation, either.
