NBA Trade Rumors: Dwight Howard and Dallas Mavericks Are Match Made in Heaven
Three teams have been allowed to contact the Orlando Magic and Dwight Howard about a possible trade for the star center, but there is only one best option.
The Dallas Mavericks.
While Dallas doesn’t have the bright lights like Los Angeles or the financial support of a Russian billionaire and Jay-Z like the Nets, Dallas has winners. Proven winners.
With Tyson Chandler heading to the New York Knicks and Caron Butler heading to the Los Angeles Clippers, there is plenty of room down low for Dwight Howard to make his magic.
A star like Dirk Nowitzki would take much of the pressure off down low, and that would afford Howard better space to make post moves and clearer lanes for dunks.
A power forward like Nowitzki playing with a center like Howard would be the most dangerous low game in the NBA. Add the shooting of Jason Terry and the veteran abilities of Jason Kidd and Shawn Marion and you have one of the best teams in the league again this season.
It's true that the majority of the Dallas Mavericks team is on their last legs, but this could be a trade that only lasts one season for Howard. That would mean he would be playing for a monster contract.
With Howard playing hard and the stars around him seeing this as their very last opportunity at an NBA championship, it will be hard to stop a Mavericks team that was so dangerous last season.
Howard wants to control his own destiny, making his 2012 entrance into the free agency market too exciting to sign long-term with any team he is traded to this season. While acquiring him is a huge risk, Mark Cuban has never been one to play in conservative and would love to pull the trigger on this move.
The biggest offseason addition the Mavericks have made so far was adding shooting guard Rudy Fernandez to the mix, giving Howard yet another piece that can hit shots. Unlike the players he had around him in Orlando.
While the major markets of LA and New York may be too big to give up on, Dallas is the far better option for Howard right now.
