Tim Tebow: Charles Barkley Please Do Us All a Favor and Stick to Basketball
Charles Barkley's done it again. He opened his mouth and uttered silly, unfounded and whimsical words that have the sports world abuzz.
While Barkley was on "The Waddle and Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000 today, he thought it would be smart to skip the basketball talk and move into an area he knows nothing about, NFL football. Barkley decided to put his disgust for the media's handling of Tim Tebow's dominance on display by making the following statement:
"I want to make a personal plea to Lance Briggs, Brian Urlacher, Mr. [Julius] Peppers, please stop the madness," Barkley said. "I'm just so tired ... I like Tim Tebow. He seems like a good kid, and I wish him success, but I am Tebowed out. So this is my personal plea for you three guys, please stop this madness."
"It's clearly a media-drive story,' They just want you to argue about Tim Tebow. Dude, let the kid play. If he can play, good. If he can't play it will show. But to have this argument every single day after five or six games is just ridiculous."
I understand that Barkley is allowed to have his opinion on whatever he wants to, but what I think it's outlandish is that what he is arguing about is exactly what he does every week when he is an analyst on NBA on TNT.
I can't tell you how many times I've watched an NBA game on TNT, only to hear Barkley rant and rave about the same topic during the half-time or post game show for days, if not weeks in a row.
In the first few weeks of the 2010-11 NBA season, all Barkley talked about was how terrible LeBron James was and how atrocious the Miami Heat were. In the 2010-11 playoffs, all Barkley talked about was the dismantling of the Los Angeles Lakers and how the Miami Heat's big three was never going to win a championship.
I just don't understand how Barkley can plead with the Bears to help stop something that he does all the time, and doesn't seem to care about. The media loves Tim Tebow and his recent success because it gets people to listen and pay attention to what they are talking about. That is exactly the same reason why the media loves Charles Barkley, because he says goofy and often outlandish things that get people talking and paying attention.
I know Barkley just made the comments for attention, but it shows how truly illogical he can be (and is) most of the time.
I personally hope the Bears lose and the Tebow talk keeps on coming, so then Barkley can understand what we all have to go through when we hear him talk on NBA on TNT.
Barkley, you should only be opening your mouth to put food in it or to talk about basketball. If you aren't doing either of those things, please do us all a favor and keep your mouth closed.
