Dana White: Rashad Evans' Joke "One of the Dumbest Things You Could Say"

Mike HodgesDec 9, 2011

Rashad Evans was given a firm warning regarding his actions earlier this week when he referenced the Penn State sex abuse scandal in his pre-fight trash-talk at UFC on FOX 2 press conference.

Evans took a verbal shot at his opponent, Phil Davis, who is a Penn State alumni, much to the dismay of UFC President Dana White, who was not too impressed with the light heavyweight's inappropriate remark.

According to White, both he and Evans spoke in private immediately following the press conference and "Suga" admitted he was wrong.

"We talked," White told MMAFighting.com. "It's one thing when you're dealing with dummies. When you're dealing with people who are really stupid, it's tough to talk to them. But when you call a guy who's an intelligent guy, he gets it. He knows."

The former UFC light heavyweight champion said he has nothing against Davis personally, and his attempt at trash-talk was simply for entertainment value.

"I have plenty of respect for him as a fighter and as a person," Evans said. "But when it comes to competing with me, I gotta let my mouth go a little bit."

Despite the controversy, Evans was not punished for his unprofessional gesture, as White was hesitant to take any action towards the 32-year-old.

"What do you want me to do? You want me to have our lawyers draw something up and I'll come out and read it to you guys?," he said regarding Evans. "You know, he said something stupid. It's probably one of the dumbest things you could say."
