Andy Pettitte on the Way Out?

Kevin RozellDec 27, 2008

Could this be the end of Pettitte’s run with the Yankees? It very well could be according to many sources. Since adding Mark Teixeira, the Yankees might be shying away from bringing back Pettitte for another year.

I think it would be a good idea to bring him back because you can never have too much pitching. Putting Andy in the fifth spot would be the best idea because then you can have Hughes as an insurance policy just in case someone can’t go that day or gets injured.

I would love to have Hughes get the spot in the rotation, but I think the staff needs more depth and it couldn’t hurt Phil if he spent some more time in the minors.

from the New York Post:

According to the New York Post, “a Yankees official” said Wednesday that the team is now “doubtful” to re-sign Andy Pettitte.

rotoworld reports:

New York has had a one-year, $10 million offer to Pettitte on the table for a long time now and may be ready to simply move on after signing Mark Teixeira, CC Sabathia, and A.J. Burnett.
With four spots in the rotation accounted for and Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy around to compete for the fifth spot, there isn’t a pressing need to bring back Pettitte if he continues to hold out for more money.
