WWE's Reason for Putting the WWE Championship on Jeff Hardy
Of course we all were surprised when we saw Jeff Hardy win the WWE Championship at Armageddon a few weeks back, but why did the WWE put the title on Hardy? Well it was sort of a message thing really.
See Vince McMahon actually brought up the idea to the creative team 2 weeks before Armageddon, who were really surprised that he of all people brought it up. Vince had been negative of the idea because of Hardy's past.
If you remember Rob Van Dam actually held two major titles in 2006, and he was arrested for drug possession. McMahon pretty much said if you have been convicted or caught with drugs by the WWE or law enforcement you will never hold a World Title.

Stephanie McMahon, who brought up the Jeff Hardy winning the WWE Title in the past with her father said by saying that it sends the wrong message to other superstars. We do not hear much about people other than Jeff Hardy failing drug tests, but others do too.
Guys such as Brian Kendrick, and Randy Orton have failed them. So why punish Hardy? It is most likely because he has failed it more times than the others, however it looks as if Kendrick will break his record.
However unlike Orton, Hardy and Kendrick failed and were caught with drugs. Orton failed a drug test but was never caught with them. At least that is the story
We just focus on Hardy because of his popularity of course. The WWE reveals who fails drug tests because they feel it teaches a lesson to the superstars who fail them. And gives them an incentive to stop.
McMahon feels that if Hardy were caught again failing a drug test of getting involved with them it would be OK. And with that said you wonder, "Why, Vince—why?"
Well, he feels if Hardy did fail the tests or was caught with drugs, he could be released because of that being his third strike. It is well-documented in the WWE that Hardy is on the third-strike rule.
It has even been put into Hardy's storylines for a while now, even more so after Wrestlemania where he was suspended for being caught.
McMahon feels that if Hardy were released as WWE Champion that it would send a huge message to ALL superstars in the WWE that no one is safe. Which is a great idea, in my mind.
If you put everyone on notice, even your most popular stars and/or champions, then you get the attention of all the developmental and other young stars. It tells them that the WWE does not tolerate this kind of behavior.
It is a privilege for you to even be here, so why screw it up? I can tell you right now, I know Hardy would do anything to turn the clock back and never get involved with drugs.
What do you think of McMahon's message?
