Florida Gators Football: The Effect of Charlie Weis to Kansas for the Gators

According to ESPN, Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis has been hired as the new head football coach for the Kansas Jayhawks. 

Not only does this move shock the college football world, but it will have a significant effect on the Gators. And where the Gators will feel the biggest effect is in the recruiting world.

Weis is one of the brightest offensive minds in the nation, and his three Super Bowl rings show that he knows what it takes to be successful in the NFL, let alone in college football. And recruits love that kind of assurance.

With commits like tight-end Kent Taylor and offensive linemen D.J. Humphries and Jessamen Dunker, who were all recruited by Weis, the departure of Weis could easily affect their commitment status.

Other recruits like 5-stars Nelson Agholor and Stefon Diggs, both wide receivers, will definitely have to take a long look at the idea of coming to Florida. A university with no offensive coordinator certainly doesn't settle well with fickle recruits who can change their mind in a second.

And with prestigious schools like Ohio State, Florida State and Auburn vying for these same players, they will certainly point out the instability in the Florida coaching staff right now.

A Weis departure could seemingly take a Florida recruiting class that many deemed a top-three class, and turn it into another tumultuous recruiting cycle for the Gators.  

In order to reduce the impact of Weis' departure, Florida head coach Will Muschamp will have to act quickly and effectively when hiring a new offensive coordinator.

Nevertheless, it will be an interesting next couple of weeks for the Florida football team and Gator Nation.
