NFL Week 14 Start 'Em Sit 'Em: 4 Starters Who Will Excel in Any Fantasy League
In the NFL, there are just a handful or two of players who can be counted on to produce in a major way for their respective teams week after week, regardless of opponent.
If you are fortunate enough to have one of these players on your fantasy football roster, then you're well familiar with just how invincible they can be.
No matter what, you can guarantee a big day from the following four players, should you have one (or more) of them on your fantasy team.
QB Tom Brady, New England Patriots (at Washington Redskins)
1 of 4Aside from the 2008 season when Tom Brady suffered a season-ending knee injury in the first game of the year, he has always been a reliable, high-scoring fantasy quarterback.
Rarely susceptible to pressure or prone to making many mistakes, Brady can read defenses like you and I can recognize our own names and makes plays to any number of receivers.
From traditional deep-threat receivers like Randy Moss to modern, do-it-all tight ends like Rob Gronkowski and everyone in between, Brady can get them the ball and assure his team touchdowns.
This week Brady faces the Washington Redskins and their 10th-ranked defense. Regardless of defensive rankings, Brady hasn't faltered and he shouldn't this week.
Through 13 weeks, Brady has completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 3,916 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He's one of three quarterbacks on pace to break Dan Marino's single-season passing record and could throw as many as 45 touchdowns once the year is through.
There's never a reason to keep Brady on your fantasy bench. He's impervious to bad matchups, hasn't had a game without a touchdown all year and is averaging 326 passing yards per game. Expect more of the same this week.
TE Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints (at Tennessee Titans)
2 of 4At 6'6" tall and looking like a deep-threat wide receiver, New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham is the kind of player every team can only dream of having.
Easily the most productive and reliable target for the league's leading passer, Drew Brees, Graham became the first tight end in Saints history to net more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season last week when he caught eight passes for 89 yards in his team's win over the Detroit Lions.
Graham averages an astounding 87.2 yards per game and has caught 75 passes for 1,046 yards and eight touchdowns this season.
Graham always finds a way to get open and Brees always finds a way to get the ball to his open man.
The single-biggest reason Graham has been successful this year is his ability to gain separation from defenders no matter who he faces and he shouldn't have much trouble getting open this week against the Tennessee Titans and their 19th-ranked pass defense that is 31st against tight ends.
Graham hasn't had a 100-yard day since Week 6, but this week should get close to, if not beyond that number. In a year that has seen a number of tight ends prove their worth, Graham is easily the second most valuable fantasy tight end you could have.
RB Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks (vs. St. Louis Rams)
3 of 4There's no better late-season running back than the Seattle Seahawks' Marshawn Lynch, who has netted at least 100 rushing yards in four of his last five games.
On the year, Lynch has 202 carries for 854 yards and eight touchdowns and has caught 20 passes for 170 yards and another score. He's the most reliable source of offensive production for his Seahawks team and takes pressure off of quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.
Even when Seattle doesn't manage a win, Lynch can still be counted on for a high level of production, making him one of the most reliable and explosive fantasy starters to come from a sub-.500 team. He's elusive and explosive and breaks tackles like few of his contemporaries can.
This week, Lynch should add yet another 100-yard performance when his team faces the St. Louis Rams and their last-place rush defense that's giving up over 150 rushing yards per game.
WR Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions (vs. Minnesota Vikings)
4 of 4Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is easily one of the elite—or perhaps the most elite—receiver in the game this season, with five 100-plus yardage games on the year and just three contests in which he was held below 80 yards.
Double coverage, triple coverage, it doesn't matter—Johnson always finds ways to get open.
Though his production dipped a bit while his quarterback Matthew Stafford had a broken finger on his throwing hand and couldn't throw deep very well, he should bounce back in a major way this week matched up against the Minnesota Vikings' 30th-ranked pass defense.
Johnson has caught 69 passes for 1,092 yards and 12 touchdowns this year despite never catching more than eight passes a game.
He's a big-play receiver who makes quarterbacks look even better than they are and he's never at a disadvantage no matter what a defense throws at him.
Simply put, that means that Johnson is a defense-proof fantasy wide receiver who never really suffers from poor matchups.
Start him this week and he'll succeed; start him next week against the tougher Oakland Raiders secondary and he'll succeed just the same. He's an every-week must-start this year and probably for years to come.
