Dayne Crist Notre Dame Transfer: 3 Reasons He Shouldn't Go to Wisconsin

Randy ChambersDec 8, 2011

With the quarterback situation looking like it's not going to include Dayne Crist, he has received permission to seek other schools and transfer. Crist was the starter for the Irish in the beginning of the season, but after a horrible Week 1 start he was benched.

With Russell Wilson graduating, there are reports that he is eying the Wisconsin Badgers as a possible landing spot. A transferred quarterback worked for the Badgers this season; why not next year?

Here are a couple reasons why Crist should not consider Wisconsin and why he should be looking elsewhere.

Other Quarterbacks Are Considering Wisconsin as Well

1 of 3

Dayne Crist is transferring from Notre Dame because he is no longer the starter and the Irish have no plans of going with him again since they have a deep quarterback class.

Well, if he transfers to Wisconsin he may have a little bit of competition there as well. Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema has recently said that a total of three quarterbacks have shown interest in transferring to become a Badger.

If this happens to be the case, Crist should be looking elsewhere to play football next season.

Key Offensive Players Leaving This Year

Crist may want to join Wisconsin because the quarterback position is opening up, but Russell Wilson isn't the only one leaving.

Leading wide receiver Nick Toon will also be graduating this year, as well as fullback Bradie Ewing and tight end Jake Byrne. The offensive line will lose a couple of starters and with the recent success of Montee Ball, he may declare eligible for the NFL draft.

With all of those weapons leaving Wisconsin next season, I'm sure he could find a safer place to go to. Not to mention he didn't put up great numbers in Notre Dame with a solid offense around him to begin with.

High Expectations

Russell Wilson changed Wisconsin the minute he stepped on campus. The expectations were through the roof and for the most part he fulfilled them.

He made this offense a lot more balanced and was a huge reason they won the Big Ten and clinched a berth in the BCS Rose Bowl.

Crist may not have the same big name as Wilson, but many fans will expect similar results after the season they just had. Dayne Crist has shown no signs of being able to put up numbers of over 3,000 yards passing, 31 touchdowns and a completion percentage of 72 percent.

Crist should go somewhere where the expectations aren't as high. If he continues his mediocre play, a lot of people would be disappointed.
