Alabama Football: 10 Bold Predictions for the BCS Championship Game

Larry BurtonDec 8, 2011

Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) The game that polarized the nation is still weeks away. Some couldn't wait to see a re-match and others lobbied hard for any other matchup.

Despite which side of the fence you were on in that debate, the best two teams in the country are facing off for the crystal football, and though it will be a re-match, it certainly won't be a repeat.

So let's take a look at the big reasons the game will be different and examine the bold predictions this game should live up to.

1. There'll Be More Scoring and Touchdowns Will Be Scored

1 of 10

The conservative nature of the first game will be a thing of the past. Both offenses will open up a bit more and the result will be more scoring.

Each team should score touchdowns in the next game.

2. Tyrann Mathieu Is a Marked Man and Will Be Slammed

2 of 10

Self-promoting cheap-shot artist Tyrann Mathieu will be paid back for his cheap shot on Dre Kirkpatrick. There is no defense or excuse for that cheap shot that merely resulted in a penalty and not an ejection.

Alabama players will be looking for any opportunity for payback and Mathieu will play the entire game as a marked man.

3. No Interceptions This Time Around

3 of 10

In the last game, both teams threw interceptions. This time, that won't happen.

Both offenses will bring their A games to bear for the championship, and while you'll see more throwing and pass attempts than the last game, you'll see fewer mistakes.

In this game, the team with the fewest mistakes may win it all.

4. No Jarrett Lee

4 of 10

Jarrett Lee was largely ineffective against Alabama in the last game and threw two picks as well.

With Jordan Jefferson back in the saddle, you may see Lee very little or not at all.

5. More Trick Plays

5 of 10

Each side will try and bust the game open with a few trick plays. With the feeling that a touchdown in this game is so valuable, look for them to try anything to get one.

6. LSU Will Double Its Passing Yardage of the First Game

6 of 10

After two picks, Miles grounded the passing game in the last contest. This time, he'll open it up and open it up a lot more.

Jefferson is considered a running quarterback, but look for him to fake a run and throw the ball on more than one occasion.

7. Alabama's Rushing Yardage Will Go Up from the Last Game

7 of 10

In the first game, Eddie Lacy was hobbled with turf toe. Look for him to be 100 percent this time around. That will allow Alabama to spring its ugly two-headed monster of a running attack on LSU, and the results will be a much higher rushing total than the last contest.

8. The Final Score Will Have a Larger Margin of Victory Than the Last One

8 of 10

This game won't be the nail-biter that the other one was. With more scoring comes a wider margin of victory. Look for the victor to be at least a 10-point winner.

9. This Will Be Re-Match Game, Not a Repeat

9 of 10

This won't be the same defensive struggle the last game was.

There will be lots more offense and big plays in this one.

10. A Different Outcome

10 of 10

This game will also have a different outcome.

LSU was thoroughly outplayed in the first game, everywhere but the scoreboard.

That won't happen this time and Alabama not only gains its revenge, but another national title.
