NFL Week 14 Picks: Looking at Defenses Sure to Beat Opponents into Submission

Chris TrapassoDec 7, 2011

Although we're amid an offensive renaissance, not every quarterback is operating his attack with the same efficiency as Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady or Drew Brees

In fact, there are quite a few offenses that have been forced me to change the channel this season.

Which teams will beat inept offenses into submission during Week 14's action?

San Francisco 49ers (at Arizona Cardinals)

Where to start with this matchup?

For the Cardinals' sake, at least 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis won't play. Still, San Fran's defensive scheme and underrated secondary will give Arizona trouble throughout this one.

If Beanie Wells gets going, the Cardinals can be dangerous, but this is no Rams run defense they're facing this week. The 49ers allow a minuscule 71.8 rushing yards per game.

Kevin Kolb may rack up a respectable amount of yardage through the air, but I don't expect Arizona to light up the scoreboard.

Baltimore Ravens (vs. Indianapolis Colts)

Another tremendous defense that will be without their star middle linebacker. In this case, it's the living legend Ray Lewis

Nothing against Dan Orlovsky, but he isn't up against the Patriots' defensive backfield this week. The Ravens will draw up a variety of blitzes to confuse him, which should lead to a few game-changing turnovers.

Indianapolis actually hasn't been bad running the football, averaging 4.3 yards per carry, but a lot of their ground yardage has come in garbage time.

Orlovsky is seemingly a better option than Curtis Painter, but he'll struggle mightily in the Ravens nest on Sunday.

New York Jets (vs. Kansas City Chiefs)

The Jets defense is a bit overhyped, but it is still a respectable unit. They'll have no issue slowing down Tyler Palko and the Chiefs' anemic offensive attack on Sunday.

Last week against a susceptible Bears' secondary, Palko only mustered 157 yards, which included a 38-yard Hail Mary touchdown passes to Dexter McCluster at the end of the first half.

New York's run defense has been outstanding over the last month and will limit Jackie Battle, Thomas Jones and McCluster, forcing Palko to hesitantly throw into their talented defensive backfield.

Not good a situation for the Chiefs.
