Dayne Crist Notre Dame Transfer: Rumors Point to Wisconsin, Why It's a Good Idea

Quarterback Dayne Crist has opted to transfer from Notre Dame after being benched for Tommy Rees earlier this season. He dealt with injury problems during the end of last season and coach Brian Kelly opted to go with the hotter hand this year.

Florida and Stanford are two schools reportedly interested in his services, but the school that would be the biggest win for both parties would be Wisconsin.

It is no secret that Wisconsin will need a new quarterback now that Russell Wilson has used up all of his eligibility. His play has really propelled the team to the Rose Bowl and the Badgers are two Hail Mary passes away from playing for the national championship this season.

And before him Scott Tolzien wasn’t too bad either, leading them to an 11-1 season and a Big Ten Championship.

The running backs at Wisconsin are clearly the focal point, but in order to get to the next level nationally you have to have good quarterback play. If the team is looking for a transfer, clearly they don’t have a good enough one right now.

That said, there are two offensive linemen who will graduate next year and center Peter Konz could declare early. On the other hand, the Badgers have never had trouble churning out quality offensive linemen and their two-deep is just gigantic.

Montee Ball could also declare early, but James White is more than capable of handling the every down responsibilities. And while receiver Nick Toon will graduate, Jared Abbrederis has been arguably more impressive and he is just a sophomore.

Charlie Weis may be at Florida but Wisconsin is considerably closer and the team has a legitimate shot at playing for the national championship, especially if players like Konz and Ball return. Dayne Crist should definitely be going to play ball for the Badgers.
