WWE Opinion: Is John Laurinaitis the Funniest Character on WWE Television?

Justin EldridgeDec 6, 2011

Hello fellow Bleachers!

Many people seem to have a lot of bad things to say about the VP of talent relations and interim Raw general manager Mr. John Laurinaitis. "He's boring," or "He sounds like Super Dave Osborne," is the common sentiment.

I'm here to try to make you see that John Laurinaitis just may be the funniest character in the WWE right now.

First off, the fact that he sounds like "Super Dave" gets him bonus points with me, as I grew up watching Dave and absolutely loved that show.

Anyways...

I absolutely believe that this whole "no charisma" argument against Mr. Laurinaitis is not valid. Are we supposed to believe that this man is really that devoid of charisma? Of course we are, and that's exactly what makes his character work.

I'm pretty sure I'm repeating this from somewhere, but I think it sums up John Laurinaitis perfectly. He is the Bill Lumberg of WWE. He's the annoying, bland, middle-management guy. CM Punk hit it perfectly when he called him out on it.

For those of you who haven't seen the movie Office Space, see it. You won't be disappointed. For those of you that have, I'm sure that on more than one occasion in that movie, you were laughing at how ridiculous the Lumberg character was.

I may have laughed the hardest when Lumberg was speaking, and I found myself doing the same last night when John Laurinaitis was talking.

Maybe I have a warped sense of humor. In fact, I know I do, but that's not the point. I will focus, for now, on last night's Raw only. But, he had the funniest moments of the night.

First, when he was called out at being unable to produce exciting television, what does he say? I'm going to be paraphrasing here, but it was something along the lines of, "Hey! I'm Mr. Excitement."

Now, who else can pull that off in a completely bland voice and delivery in the WWE and have you laughing about it. Santino? Hell no! Ryder? Not even close. Only John Laurinaitis.

By the way, Mr. Laurinaitis, you almost cracked a smile yourself while saying it. Be more careful next time.

The other moments were during the contract signing for the Triple Threat TLC match (which should be awesome!).

I will give CM Punk credit. He almost took the crown of comedy in this segment when he told Alberto Del Rio that if he said it was his destiny to win, he would start drinking. Touche Punk.

Alas, he had to take a backseat to Mr. Laurinaitis here as well. When The Miz said he took out Morrison last week, he said Laurinaitis had to release him. What did Johnny do? He jumped in and said, " I would like to take this opportunity to wish John Morrison all the best in his future endeavors."

Simply amazing! What did Johnny Ace try to do at the end of the signing? Have a picture taken of him with the competitors. Who says he isn't creative? Because that's some funny s&!#.

I think an extended program between CM Punk and John Laurinaitis could be akin to what we saw between Vince and Stone Cold in terms of producing some really entertaining television.

These two play amazingly off of each other. Sure, Johnny stumbles on his words sometimes, but I can overlook that if he stays as funny as he has been.

This article is, of course, just my opinion, but all I ask of you that are reading this is just try to see him from a different angle. You might just be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for reading.
