Cam Newton and 6 NFL QBs We Trust Most When on the Run
In their legs we trust.
The NFL quarterback is expected to call a good game, find the open receiver and make the big play.
They are also expected to get the much needed first down when the team has no other outlet for a scoring opportunity.
The legs of a quarterback are becoming more and more important in today's NFL.
Quarterbacks coming out in the draft are stronger, faster and more mobile than those before them. And for every Bobby Douglass and Steve Young, there are five or more coming out in the draft each year.
These quarterbacks are the ones we feel comfortable with on the move toward the goal line.
Vince Young, Philadelphia Eagles
1 of 7The Eagles are blessed to have two very mobile passers, in Young and Michael Vick.
Young is a more polished pocket passer, but he is as mobile as any thrower in the game.
And when there is trouble, he is off to the races.
Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
2 of 7Rodgers has proven this year to be having an All-World year from the quarterback position.
But in addition to being able to sling the ball all over the field, Rodgers has also proven to be agile enough to move out of the pocket and score with his feet.
He is a better athlete than maybe we give him credit for being.
Michael Vick, Phildelphia Eagles
3 of 7His running and passing was the main reason Philadelphia was such a good team this year.
Vick can run better than any quarterback in the NFL. Period.
But his running and open style has allowed him to sustain many injuries last year and this season.
Vick is still a strong threat to reach the end zone on every play he is involved in.
Jason Campbell, Raiders
4 of 7Where he winds up next season is anyone's guess. But when the Redskins drafted Campbell, they did so for his arm and his agility.
The Raiders may have a strong-armed Carson Palmer throwing to the young receivers, but he is not as mobile as the man he replaced.
Tim Tebow, Denver Broncos
5 of 7His running and playmaking has been the key to Denver's success this season.
He is a fullback playing quarterback.
The college game was not ready for him and the NFL is learning just how good he is with the ball in his hand.
Tebow could play various positions on offense and be successful at them because of his legs alone.
Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
6 of 7Another big, strong-armed passer who is deceptively mobile and can run for a first down or two.
Roethlisberger can carry defenders on his back as he fights for a first down or tries to reach the end zone on the move.
Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers
7 of 7Newton has lit the NFL up this year.
He has 13 rushing touchdowns from the quarterback position.
His strength and size are hard to deny, and defenders usually get carried into the end zone when they try to bring him down.
Carolina's passing game and running game are set for the next decade as long as Newton is behind center.
