Lakers Rumors: Dwight Howard and Baron Davis To Los Angeles Signals Next Dynasty

Dan FavaleDec 5, 2011

It seems that Matt Barnes has grown impatient waiting for it to happen and has decided to push the bill of a potential move to Los Angeles for Dwight Howard and Baron Davis himself.

The Lakers have been repeatedly linked to both: Howard since last season and Davis since it was announced his preferred list of destinations (should he be cut by the Cleveland Cavaliers) included Los Angeles.

Howard's and Davis' interest in joining the Lakers may be stronger than first believed, if we are to believe Barnes' recent statement.

In a video posted by ESPN Los Angeles, Barnes says that he has spoken with both athletes and that they have said they want to come play for the Lakers.

With both Davis and Howard dancing around questions regarding their future, Barnes' comments have the potential to shed some major light on their plans if he is not merely posturing. And if he isn't just attempting to keep the rumor-mill churning, the rest of the NBA better be on guard because if Davis and Howard land in Los Angeles then the Lakers are poised to start another dynasty.

Los Angeles has a clear need at the point guard position. While Davis is no Chris Paul, he is still a terrific floor general. He can still score and is an upgrade over the defensively-challenged Derek Fisher. Overall, he has aged quite well.

When it comes to Howard, there is no player like him. He is the most dominant defender and rebounder in the league and has also developed a nice low-post game, allowing him play at an MVP level on both ends of the floor.

What happens when you pair these two with Kobe Bryant and most likely Pau Gasol? The phrase "potential dynasty" comes to mind.

Bryant may be aging, but he is still Kobe Bryant. Davis' game has fallen off a bit, but he is at least as valuable as an Andre Miller-type player, Gasol is still finessing his keep at a star level, and Howard's effectiveness simply cannot be matched.

After a disappointing postseason, Los Angeles is looking to shake things up. Acquiring both Davis and Howard would prove to do just that, transforming them into contenders once again and perhaps even instant favorites.

Based on Barnes' comments, a Lakers dynasty is just waiting to be formed. If both Davis and Howard come to Los Angeles, the team's biggest worry would be Bryant and Davis calling it quits after multiple championships so that they may retire on top.

Are Barnes' statements revealing? Only time will tell, but it is worth noting that the last time a player made a proclamation of that nature and magnitude, it was Amar'e Stoudemire and he was speaking in regards to a player by the name of Carmelo Anthony.

And we all know how that panned out.
