NFL Power Rankings Week 14: Playoff Odds for Every Team
The playoff picture is becoming more and more clear with each passing week. The Packers and the 49ers are the only two teams who have clinches playoff berths, but there are a handful of teams that are just a win or two away from locking up their spot.
Click through to see where each team is ranked this week, and their chances of making the postseason.
32. The Indianapolis Colts
1 of 32When you are 0-12, you will take any kind of victory you can get. The Colts got a moral victory this week when they only lost by seven to the Patriots. Congratulations to them for that.
The Colts' week 17 game in Jacksonville is the only hope they have for a win this season, and they will probably be a 10 point underdog in that one. Hello, Mr. Luck.
COLTS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Ha, that is funny.
31. The St. Louis Rams
2 of 32There is a good chance the Rams will not win another game this season. It is hard to believe how things have gone so wrong after a promising 2010.
They will more than likely be looking for a new coach. It is hard to see them giving Steve Spagnuolo another year after this debacle.
RAMS' PLAYOFF ODDS: They were eliminated in week 7.
30. The Washington Redskins
3 of 32The Redskins probably wish they could have the first month of the season back. That is when they got three of their four wins. Had they not won those games, they would be in the hunt for Andrew Luck.
They have a couple of tough weeks before ending the season with two winnable games against the Vikings and Eagles.
REDSKINS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Eliminated.
29. The Jacksonville Jaguars
4 of 32The Jaguars looked pretty terrible at home against the Chargers on Monday night.
They obviously will not be in the playoffs. Their larger concern has to be Blaine Gabbert. He is the only rookie quarterback in this class who has not given any reason for people to believe that he is going to succeed on the NFL level.
JAGUARS' PLAYOFF CHANCES: Zero.
28. The Cleveland Browns
5 of 32The back end of Cleveland's schedule is brutal. They kicked it off this week with a 24-10 loss to the Ravens.
They have the Steelers twice and another game against the Ravens before the season is over. Good luck with that.
The Browns really need to add some offensive playmakers this offseason.
BROWNS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Out.
27. The Minnesota Vikings
6 of 32It is not going to happen for the Vikings this year, but there is a lot to be excited about for the future. Christian Ponder has played well since he took over, and they have the best running back in the NFL. If they can add a dynamic receiver, they will have one of the more feared offenses in the NFL.
They have tough games in the next two against the Lions and Saints, but end the season with the Redskins and the banged up Bears.
VIKINGS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Maybe next year.
26. The Arizona Cardinals
7 of 32The Cardinals got an unexpected win over the Cowboys this week.
Arizona really looked like a team that could make a push for the NFC West title before the season started. Their season would have to fall in the disappointing category.
It is hard to see them winning more than one or two more games with their remaining games against San Francisco, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Seattle.
CARDINALS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Barely a blip on the radar.
25. The Kansas City Chiefs
8 of 32This season has not gone at all like the Chiefs expected it to go, but a lot of that is due to the injuries they have suffered throughout the course of the season.
It is interesting that they did not go with Kyle Orton as their starting quarterback this week. It would seem that this would be the week Orton gets his first start.
The Chiefs have a tough last month of the season with games against the Jets, Packers, Raiders and Broncos.
CHIEFS' PLAYOFF ODDS: The same as the odds of Tyler Palko being a good NFL quarterback.
24. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers
9 of 32This season has been a disaster for the Buccaneers. Josh Freeman has taken a huge step backwards, and their defense cannot stop anyone.
They travel to Jacksonville to take this week. If they cannot find a way to win that game, they might not win a game until 2012 because their last three are against the Cowboys, Panthers and Falcons.
BUCCANEERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Not going to happen.
23. The Phiadelphia Eagles
10 of 32Just when you think the Eagles have hit rock bottom, they travel out to Seattle and do not even look competitive against a Seahawks team that is not good.
The good news for the Eagles is that the Vince Young experiment should be over. Michael Vick told the media on Monday that he will play this week against the Dolphins.
Philadelphia still has some interesting story lines to watch for the rest of the season. What happens with Andy Reid? What happens with DeSean Jackson? Of course it is pretty sad that these are the only interesting things left surrounding the Eagles.
EAGLES' PLAYOFF ODDS: Zero.
22. San Diego Chargers
11 of 32The Chargers finally showed some life this week on the road in Jacksonville.
They still have a shot to make the playoffs because they are only two games out of the division race. The odds are not in their favor, however, because their remaining schedule is pretty tough. They host the Bills and Ravens before going on the road to play the Lions and Raiders.
San Diego has been a good team in December the last couple of years and Philip Rivers showed some signs of life against the Jaguars. The problem is it might be too little too late.
CHARGERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 30%.
21. The Miami Dolphins
12 of 32You would be hard pressed to name more than a handful of teams that are playing better football than the Dolphins right now. They have won four of their last five after starting the season 0-7.
They still probably need a strong finish for Tony Sparano to save his job, but he is not the dead man walking he was six weeks ago.
DOLPHINS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Out because of a disastrous start.
20. The Seattle Seahawks
13 of 32The Seahawks are turning into a team that no one wants to play. They have won three of their last four.
Seattle has a chance to make a run here at the end of the season. They only have two games left against contenders, and one of those two is against the Bears who will be without Jay Cutler and Matt Forte.
SEAHAWKS' PLAYOFF ODDS: On life support.
19. The Carolina Panthers
14 of 32The Panthers and Cam Newton put up more impressive numbers in a 38-19 win over the Buccaneers.
Carolina still has a long way to go as a team, but the pieces are in place where one good offseason could make them a legitimate contender.
The key for Newton this offseason will be making adjustments to his game to keep him ahead of the adjustments the league will be making on him.
PANTHERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Somewhere around 2%.
18. The Buffalo Bills
15 of 32The Bills are in a free fall. They fell short again this week at home against Tennessee.
C.J. Spiller has done a nice job replacing Fred Jackson, but the offense just is not as explosive with Jackson out of the game.
They are still alive in the playoff hunt, but they would need a whole lot of help.
BILLS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Just north of 3.2%.
17. The Chicago Bears
16 of 32A few weeks ago the Bears looked like a lock to earn a wild card spot. Then Jay Cutler was lost to a thumb injury. That really hurt their chances.
Now their chances have diminished even further with the injury to Matt Forte. It looks like there is a good chance that he will not play again in the regular season.
Their schedule is not that tough with the exception of the game against the Packers, but it is hard to see them winning many games with the injuries they have sustained.
BEARS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 50/50 at best right now.
16. The Oakland Raiders
17 of 32The Raiders looked like they were poised to take control of the AFC West before traveling to Miami and getting thumped by the Dolphins.
They are currently tied with the Broncos atop the division.
The Raiders have a tough remaining schedule. They only have one game left against a team that will not be fighting for a playoff spot.
RAIDERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 75%.
15. The Dallas Cowboys
18 of 32Jason Garrett iced his own kicker on Sunday. That is funny. Don't be surprised if that is one of the things that costs him his job if the Cowboys fall short of the playoffs.
The loss to the Cardinals hurt, but the Cowboys still very much control their own destiny. They have a one game lead over the Giants in the NFC East and still have two games remaining against New York. the first of those two games is in Dallas this week.
COWBOYS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 80%.
14. The Denver Broncos
19 of 32The Broncos just keep winning football games with Tim Tebow playing quarterback. It will be interesting to see what they do in the offseason. Do they stick with Tebow or try to trade him while his value is high? It is hard to see the offense he is running being effective after teams have a whole offseason to prepare for it.
All of that being said, the Broncos are currently tied atop the AFC West with the Raiders. They have two tough games against the Packers and Lions before finishing the season with the Chiefs and Chargers.
BRONCOS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 65%.
13. The Tennessee Titans
20 of 32Chris Johnson has finally hit his stride for the Titans. He has rushed for more than 340 yards in the last two games. Having CJ at full strength makes the Titans a much better team.
With the Texans beating the Falcons last week, it looks like the only chance the Titans will have to make the playoffs is a wild card spot. That means they need to finish with a better record than the Bengals because they lost to the Bengals in week 9.
The Titans have a tough match-up with the Saints this week, but then get Indianapolis and Houston before taking on the Texans in week 17.
TITANS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 35%.
12. The New York Jets
21 of 32The Jets got off to a slow start in the game last Sunday against the Redskins but finished strong to win 34-19.
The Jets are another team that is in search of a wild card spot because they are not going to catch the Patriots in the AFC East.
They have the benefit of a soft schedule the rest of the way. The only game they have left against a team that is .500 or better is their week 16 game against the Giants.
JETS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 55%.
11. The Detroit Lions
22 of 32The Lions are a team that is sinking in a hurry. Jim Schwartz needs to get his team under control because right now they are beating themselves as much if not more than the other teams are beating them.
Right now the Lions are on the outside looking in as far as the playoffs are concerned. They have the same record as the Falcons, but would not get in because they lost to the Falcons in week 7.
Their schedule down the stretch is not easy, but it is not the toughest in the league either. They play the Vikings on the road this week before playing the Raiders on the road, the Chargers at home and the Packers on the road.
LIONS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 50/50.
10. The Cincinnati Bengals
23 of 32The biggest question surrounding the Bengals was how they would do in their four division games against the Ravens and Steelers. So far they are 0-3 in those games.
The Bengals have a sandwich schedule left. The bread is tough games and the meat is easy ones. It starts this week with a trip to Houston. Then they travel to St. Louis to take on the Rams before playing the Cardinals at home. They end the season with the Ravens at home.
They probably need a 3-1 stretch to make the playoffs.
BENGALS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 45%.
9. The New York Giants
24 of 32The Giants need a win in a bad way after losing four in a row.
The good news for them is they still have both of their games left against the Cowboys, and if there is one thing you can count on, it is the Cowboys choking in a big game. They will need to win the division to get in the playoffs.
Their other two remaining games are against the Redskins and Jets.
GIANTS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 50/50.
8. The Atlanta Falcons
25 of 32The Falcons really needed to pull out a win against the Texans and their third string quarterback. They had a chance on the last drive to tie the game, but Julio Jones dropped what would have been a touchdown as time expired.
They look to have a pretty easy road to a wild card spot. The Saints are the only team left on their schedule that have a winning record. 3-1 will easily get them in.
FALCONS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 75%.
7. The New England Patriots
26 of 32The Patriots did not roll against the Colts this weekend like most people expected they would, but they were able to get the win and move to 9-3.
New England would have to absolutely go into the tank to miss the playoffs at this point. The Broncos are the only team left on their schedule with a winning record.
PATRIOTS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 95%.
6. The Pittsburgh Steelers
27 of 32The Steelers dismantled the Bengals this week to move to 9-3.
They are virtually a lock to make the playoffs at this point. They are not out of the AFC North hunt, and they have a two game lead on the field in the wild card race.
Pittsburgh also has a very favorable schedule left. San Francisco is the only team they have left that is above .500. Their other three games are the Browns twice and Rams.
STEELERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 97%
5. The Houston Texans
28 of 32It seems like it does not matter how many players the Texans lose to injury. Matt Schaub, Arian Foster and Andre Johnson have all missed time this year, but they just keep winning.
The Texans are still in the hunt for a first round bye. They are currently tied with the Patriots and Ravens at 9-3. They have a tough game this week in Cincinnati, but then they get the Panthers and Colts before finishing the season with the Titans.
TEXANS' PLAYOFF CHANCES: 90%.
4. The San Francisco 49ers
29 of 32The 49ers have already clinched a playoff spot after disposing of the Rams 26-0 on Sunday.
The only question remaining for the 49ers is can they hold off the New Orleans Saints for the #2 seed in the NFC. They are currently a game up on the Saints and only have one game left with a team above .500. It looks like the odds are in their favor to earn a first round bye.
49ERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 100%.
3. The Baltimore Ravens
30 of 32Ray Rice went off in the Ravens 24-10 win over the Browns. He finished the game with 204 yards rushing.
The Ravens currently hold the #2 spot in the AFC playoff picture. They only have to keep pace with the Steelers for the rest of the season because they swept the season series.
Baltimore has a pretty easy schedule the rest of the way. Their only game left with a team in contention is week 17 against the Bengals.
RAVENS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 95%.
2. The New Orleans Saints
31 of 32The Saints picked up their second big win a row this week when they knocked off the Detroit Lions.
New Orleans is a game behind the 49ers for the #2 seed in the NFC. They hold a two game lead over the Falcons in the AFC South race with one game left to play against them.
They will be in the playoffs barring a total collapse.
SAINTS' PLAYOFF ODDS': 99%.
1. The Green Bay Packers
32 of 32What is their left to say about Aaron Rodgers and the Packers? There is no doubt they are the best team in the NFL this year.
They have already clinched a playoff spot and have a two game lead over the 49ers for the #1 seed in the NFC. The only thing to watch with them the rest of the way is the quest for 16-0. Their chances of pulling that off are pretty good when you look at their remaining schedule.
Their only road game in the last four is at Kansas City. They will host the Raiders, Bears and Lions. 16-0 is looking like a pretty safe bet.
PACKERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 100%.
