Curt Schilling: Yankees Did Nothing Wrong by Signing Teixeira
For the first time in a long time I agree with something Curt Schilling said. He is one guy I never liked or wanted on my team, but he speaks the truth in this case. Schilling spoke out about the Yankees obtaining Mark Teixeira off the free agent market, and he is basically saying that the Yankees did nothing wrong. Check it out:

"Personally I am glad Youk is staying at first and Mike is at third.ย Adding Markโs bat is absolutely going to make the Yankees tougher.ย
Havenโt we been down this road before? Thatโs not to say this Yankeesย team canโt win 110 games, it can. But so much has to happen for that toย work out.
Please stop with the greedy bum statements too, all of you screamingย that would be saying nothing if the Sox had anteโd up. Iโm surprised butย I donโt think nearly as much as most others.ย Why? Because not once, never, did you hear ANYTHING from Mark in thisย entire charade. This is how Scott Boras works, and his clients love himย for it. Mark never said he wanted Boston, sources โclose toย negotiationsโ did. That and a handful of nickels will get you a quarter.

Tex would certainly have made this lineup more potent, but scoring theย most runs isnโt the solution. You need run prevention and the Sox haveย that too. Now so do the Yanks, but are you believing that the Yanks justย put out $400 mm-plus in contracts and all three players will be worth theย deals? When has that ever happened ACROSS a free agent class much lessย one team.
I think the Steinbrenners, coming off a miserable last season in Yankeeย Stadium, are dead set on opening the new stadium with a World Series andย they donโt care how much it costs. Good for them. You can bitch all youย want about the Yankees and greed but they spend money in a sincereย effort to win it all, every year. What fan wouldnโt want their teams toย do that.
Theoโs not done, at least in my opinion. The club is stocked with VERYย tradable young talent and you can bet with this economy teams will beย hell bent on unloading supreme talent where possible. Teams other thanย the NYโs, Anaheimโs and Bostonโs.
The AL East just got tougher, if thatโs possible, and I donโt think theย counter punches are done being thrown.ย
