BCS Bowl Games 2012: Oklahoma State Will Beat Stanford in Fiesta Bowl Shootout
The Oklahoma State Cowboys and Stanford Cardinal are on a crash course to meet in an epic Fiesta Bowl showdown. If they do happen to meet, the dude who runs the scoreboard will have his work cut out for him.
The Cowboys are the second-highest scoring team in the nation, putting up an absurd 49.8 points per game. Stanford isn't far behind, dropping 43.6 per.
Both teams have Heisman candidate quarterbacks in Brandon Weeden and Andrew Luck.
Luck is undoubtedly the better NFL prospect, but Weeden might have been better this season. The 28-year-old senior threw for over 4,000 yards and 34 touchdowns this year. Of course, Luck's numbers are also impressive. He threw for 3,170 yards, 35 touchdowns and had just nine interceptions.
Both teams also have one loss. The Cowboys fell 37-31 to unheralded Iowa State in double overtime. The Cardinal were beat down 53-30 in their lone loss, but it came against then-seventh ranked Oregon.
Neither team plays much defense. The Cowboys stifled Oklahoma in the last game of the regular season, but they've given up 30-plus points to awful teams like Louisiana-Lafayette and Tulsa.
Stanford allows fewer points per game, but their defense gets exposed against elite offenses. USC scored 48 on them in October, and the Ducks dropped 53 with ease.
I think the Cowboys offense would walk all over them as well. Stanford's offense is damn good, but I don't think they could keep up with Weeden and Justin Blackmon.
Prediction: Oklahoma State 52, Stanford 41
