Georgia vs. LSU: 5 Things We Learned from the Bulldogs Against the Tigers

Brian JonesDec 3, 2011

This was not a surprise, but the Georgia Bulldogs fell to the LSU Tigers in the SEC Championship game.

The Bulldogs had a chance to pull away from the Tigers early, but their youth showed with the dropped passes, turnovers and penalties.

They have one more game to play and can really end their season on a high note with 11 wins which is a major improvement from last year.

Here are five things we learned from the Bulldogs in the loss to the Tigers.

The Bulldogs Need a Physical Running Back

1 of 5

I think Isaiah Crowell is a very talented running back. But he has to be more mentally tough if he wants to be a great back in the SEC.

It's known Mark Richt is getting tired of his antics as well as the fans. So don't be surprised if the Bulldogs sign two running backs in February.

Keith Marshall is considered the best running back in the country and experts have said he will commit to Georgia very soon.

If he does commit, this could be the thing that lights a fire under Crowell because he needs something to get him motivated.

The Bulldogs Need More Offensive Line Depth

2 of 5

The UGA offensive line is the biggest in all of college football as well as the NFL.

That did not matter because LSU's defensive line manhandled them in the second half.

They have to find lineman that are not only big, but have quick feet and have great stamina.

That will be a priority for the Bulldogs when the season ends.

Special Teams Is Still an Issue

3 of 5

There are always four or five plays that change a football game .

There were two that stood out in the SEC Championship game and that was when Tyrann Mathieu returned a punt for a touchdown in the second quarter and had another big punt return in the third.

In hindsight, the two plays did not matter, but that's what led to the Tigers blowing past the Bulldogs.

Special teams have been an issue for the Bulldogs all year and it proved costly in their biggest game of the season.

The Bulldogs Are Not Soft

4 of 5

The score may not look like it, but the Bulldogs did play the Tigers tough.

In the first half, LSU did not gain a first down which is unheard of.

And the offense for the Bulldogs was moving the ball against the Tigers in the first quarter.

But the problem was the Bulldogs could not play that way for all four quarters and that is something they have to learn if they want to win the SEC title.

They Have To Grow Up

5 of 5

When push comes to shove, this is a young team.

If they want to win the big games, they have to learn from this game and improve on the mistakes they made.

The Bulldogs are a good team and they did a lot of good things this year. But when next year rolls around, they have to do the little things that they didn't do in this year in order to be a great team.
