Boston Celtics Video: Watch New Commercial Stir Rivalry with Lakers and Heat

Nicholas GossDec 3, 2011

The Boston Celtics' new commercial will take the team's rivalries with the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat to a new level, and it accurately shows why the history and passion for basketball in Boston is far greater than that of Los Angeles or Miami.

Celtics fans showed up when the team was terrible in the 1990s, and just average for much of the 2000s. They are much louder in the playoffs than Lakers and Heat fans, and they are also much more intelligent about the sport.

So many Lakers fans only like the team because of Kobe Bryant and the fact LA is almost always a championship contender.

Heat fans? Before last season I didn't know the team had so many fans. Well, that's because they didn't.

After LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh formed the latest "Big 3," the Miami bandwagon grew to never before seen levels.

This is not to say the Lakers and Heat don't have real fans who support their team no matter what, just that the majority of them are front-runners and bandwagoners.

All you have to do at Lakers games is look at the first three rows around the court. They are filled with Hollywood superstars, many of whom weren't born in Los Angeles, yet they claim to be Lakers fans.

As for the Heat, they represent a lot of what's wrong with basketball. LeBron James destroyed his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers and embarrassed them on national television when he decided to take his talents to South Beach.

His comments about people going back to their daily problems after an NBA Finals loss last season were also uncalled for.

The Heat and Lakers just can't compare to the prestige of Boston basketball, and in a shortened season the Celtics are poised for another championship run.
