Boxing: Abner Mares vs. Joseph Agbeko II Live Blog from Honda Center in Anaheim
The highly anticipated rematch of the final fight of Showtime's Bantamweight Tournament is here with Abner Mares taking on Joseph Agebko at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., on Saturday, Dec. 3.
Mares is now the champion, and he will be defending his WBC Silver belt and the IBF belt, which he won in a hard close fight against Agbeko back in August.
Also on the card is the always exciting powerhouse Vic Darchinyan taking on Anselmo Moreno, another elite fighter who could have very well competed in the bantamweight tournament. This fight will be for Moreno's WBA super bantamweight title.
Other notable fighters on the card are undefeated prospect Carlos Molina, veteran The Contender star Sakio Bika, and heavy-handed exciting prospect Omar Henry.
Today at the weigh-in all of the main event televised fighters made weight.
Darchinyan: 117.75 lbs vs. Moreno 118 lbs.
Both fighters look confident and ready to go to war as they stared each other down. Darchinyan looked as if he was grinning at Moreno as they went face to face. It appears that Moreno has both the height and reach advantage over Darchinyan.
Mares: 117.25 lbs vs Agbeko 117.25 lbs.
It was an obvious pro-Mares crowd chanting: MEXICO, MEXICO, MEXICO. Both fighters looked in solid shape. During the staredown, Mares focused like a laser while Agbeko moved his face up and down...perhaps to taunt the champion?
Tickets are still on sale for this fight at the Honda Center. They start off at just $25, and ringside seats are just $150. Tickets are available for purchase at all Ticketmaster locations, online at ticketmaster.com, via charge-by-phone at 800-745-3000 and at the Honda Center Box Office.
Darchinyan vs. Moreno and the main event of Mares vs. Agbeko will both be televised on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).
We will be checking in with the champion Abner Mares and his manger Frank Espinoza on how he is doing, what he is eating, and last-minute preparations as we enter into the actual fight.
So check back here as we will be at the Honda Center live where all the action will be and will be posting live updates as they come in.
