2011 Bowl Projections: Fiesta Bowl Needs To Match Up Houston and Oklahoma State

Nicholas GossDec 2, 2011

The Fiesta Bowl must matchup the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Houston Cougars to create the most exciting BCS bowl this season.

These two teams score more points than anyone in the country and would create a fan's dream matchup full of offense and little defense.

The Cougars average 52.7 points per game and throw for 449.7 yards passing per game this season, and they lead the nation in both of those. The Cowboys are second in each with 49.8 points per game and 401.6 yards passing.

Not only are these two teams deserving of a BCS bowl bid, they will give us the most exciting matchup of the bowl season.

The Cougars and top-ranked LSU are the only undefeated teams in the nation, and Houston will be fired up to prove they are a legitimate national title contender in their bowl matchup versus a top school from a BCS conference.

The Cowboys will have their own reasons to dominate the Fiesta Bowl. With LSU and Alabama likely to to secure a berth into the BCS title game, the Cowboys will be the team left out in third place in the BCS rankings.

Oklahoma State will be quite eager to prove they are worthy of a spot in the national championship game, and will given an inspired effort in their bowl.

This matchup will have some great individuals battles too.

Cougars quarterback Case Keenum has been one of the best players in college football this season, and has thrown 43 touchdown passes and only three interceptions. I'm not kidding, that's his real stat line. That's insane. I don't care who you play and how good they are, having 40 more touchdown passes than interceptions is simply amazing.

His defense will have to stop a wide receiver that could be a top-five pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Cowboys star Justin Blackmon.

Blackmon has a great combination of speed and size, which makes him extremely hard to stop.

The Cougars and Cowboys are two of the nation's best teams, and they would be the matchup everyone would have to watch if they could just pick one game of the entire bowl season, not including the BCS title game.
