NFL Week 13 Picks: Looking at Heavy Favorites That Will Stomp Opposition

Chris TrapassoDec 1, 2011

The New England Patriots are 21-point favorites this week against the winless Indianapolis Colts.

Ever seen that big of a point spread in an NFL game?

I haven't.

That's not the only game that will feature an underdog losing by a large margin, however.

New England Patriots over Indianapolis Colts

Yes, it could get ugly—very ugly. As usual, Bill Belichick praised his opponent and actually became visibly upset at a reporter for asking a question about playing a bad team.

The Patriots head coach said the following at his weekly press conference (via NESN):

"

You don't think you can gauge a team based on how a player blocks Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis? Who else would you gauge it against? Are you kidding me? Covering Reggie Wayne and Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon—you don't think you can gauge your coverage based on those players? I don't care what their record is. You think there are better receivers around than them? Better pass rushers than Freeney and Mathis? I'm not sure what games you're watching here.

"

While he technically has a point, there's a reason why the Colts are winless this season. Their quarterback play as been awful, and outside of Freeney and Mathis, their defense has been shredded by nearly every quarterback it has faced.

Come on, Indianapolis is sending Dan Orlovsky out there this week.

The Patriots will roll.

San Francisco 49ers over St. Louis Rams

The Arizona Cardinals ran for 268 yards last week against the Rams.

Ready for lots of Frank Gore?

The 49ers will return to their ground-and-pound game and will have no problem stymieing John Skelton and co. at home.

They've had extra time to think about their loss to the Ravens in which they allowed nine sacks, and they'll be ready to beat down an inferior Cardinals team.

Baltimore Ravens over Cleveland Browns

This game won't be as big of a blowout as the aforementioned contests, but this one comes down to the Ravens defense against the Browns offense: advantage Baltimore.

If Ray Lewis returns, Cleveland can forget about an upset bid.

I don't think Joe Flacco will have a particularly great game against the Browns stingy secondary, but the Ravens are certainly more capable on offense.

There are no legitimate weapons for Colt McCoy.
