Norwich City vs. Manchester City: 5 Reasons the Canaries Can Win on Saturday

James KentDec 2, 2011

Norwich City face a tough challenge at the weekend when they take on Manchester City. The unbeaten league leaders have scored 43 goals in 13 games and conceded only 12 in that period. Their home record is even more impressive, and includes six wins from six, 19 goals scored and just three conceded.

However, at the end of the day they are just a football team. On Saturday, it will be 11 v 11 and as we know, anything can happen in this game we all love. So with that in mind, here is a slideshow with five reasons that Norwich can be victorious on Saturday.

Well, They Have To Lose at Some Point

1 of 5

Everyone is getting a bit carried away with Manchester City so far this season. However, the run can't continue forever and at some point they will lose a game. Clearly though, the Canaries face a big task to be the team to do it.

They May Underestimate Norwich City

Manchester City may think that the game against Norwich City will be an easy three points, and may be an opportunity to rest some players. However, as many teams have found out to their cost in the past, it can be a very dangerous game.

This may prove to be one of the best chances the Canaries have of winning against Manchester City. Beating a dull-strength team will be a tough task, but a team made up of squad players would be a different case.

Norwich City Will Have a Go

3 of 5

A lot of teams will take the trip to Man City this season with the intention of playing for a draw. Paul Lambert though doesn't know what that term means. In his mind, every football match is an opportunity to get another three points on the board.

Norwich City know that they will have to do a lot of defending, but they will also set up with an attacking threat. Simeon Jackson and Anthony Pilkington will offer that much-needed pace required to get in behind the Man City back line.

Super-Subs

Before the season started, most Norwich City supporters would have thought Wes Hoolahan and Grant Holt were the club's most valuable players. Last week against QPR, both players started from the bench and proved to make vital contributions to help Norwich win the game. Similar roles may be in place for this weekend.

Grant Holt has also already proved his ability to score goals at famous football grounds. He has been on the scoresheet at Stamford Bridge and Anfield; who is to say he won't add the Ethiad Stadium to that list? Both Hoolahan and Holt are great players to bring off the bench.

The Pressure Is Off

5 of 5

Last week in the game against QPR, the pressure was very much on. The team knew how important it was to win to maintain that safety margin from the bottom three. The team recorded the win and increased their safety margin.

The Canaries are now seven points clear of the drop zone, and in the top half of the table. Manchester City are the red-hot favorites for this one. All of this may play into Norwich City's hands and they can just go out express themselves and play their game.
